3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Bruisn ales. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Leaves some lacing in the glass. Has a bit of malt on the nose and the descendants of hop note. Alcohol wears fairly heavy on the tongue. Some maltiness on the tongue with a hint of bitterness on the finish. Pretty good after 4 years.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
bottle. Deep brown, near black with one finger head. It might be past prime, but this just seems bland. Hops are light and dull. Malt doesn’t seem very roasty. Average at best.

Backlog - Bottle bought from Systembolaget. One of the beers that made me fall in love with Avery. Simply excellent.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
This is a very rich, very complex bock. Dark brown appearance, little head. Aromas of dark fruits, licorice, and a touch of vinegar. Delicious taste, some burned brown sugar and grape juice. Tried at the Choice City Deli in 2013.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
6/23/2010: Avery 17 Dry-Hopped Black Ale... Aroma: Hoppy with cocoa and hints of coffee. Appearance: Near black, opaque; dense, lasting tan-colored head; fine lacing. Flavor: Chocolate, lightly roasted malts; coffee flavor and accompanying bitterness in the finish; dry hopping is evident, but not overpowering; good balance overall. Palate: Medium-bodied; smooth; good mouthfeel. Overall: Good offering; seems stronger than 6.9% ABV, but still really good regardless!
Sample from 22 fl. oz. bottle (6.9% ABV) at Marty’s Hops and Vines in North College Hill (Cincinnati, Ohio). Rating #354 for this beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma: The smell is mostly herbal, grass, pine, but a bit dusty.
Appearance: This beer is dark, very dark, brown, clear and with a high, slowly settling, head. Lots of lacing!
Taste: Tasting first sweet, dark brown bread, some dried fruits, herbal notes of grass, pine, some anisette.
Palate: Medium to low carbonation, smooth and thick, a dry finish.
Overall: A very different lager indeed. Not bad at all, but could have been a stout.
Note: Bottle. Reviewed 2010-10-08.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not usually my style but the ratings were solid so I decided to grab a bottle from total wine in Cherry Hill. Pours a deep ruby brown color with medium head and a very sticky lacing. Aromas and taste of barley malt, chocolate, rye bread, lemons, asian soy, and oats. A little boozey but nothing too crazy. Good

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cellared, May 2010 bomber poured to snifters with a black/brown hue and just a slight edge of ruby highlighting, a light tan, bubbles & cream head, and spots & streaks of lacing clinging to the glass. The nose was crusts, roastiness, chocolate, caramel, a touch of dark fruit sweetness, treacle, and showed it’s age with the slightest hint of soy. Only medium bodied with decent malt, low hop bitterness, and light warmth, the flavor was smooth, but less expressive in presenting the former notes. The finale exhibited a pleasant dryness. Thanks Brad for sharing!
