A dark clear brown bock with a thin off white head. A sweet banana aroma, with licorice, maple and alcohol. In mouth, a rather striking licorice, sweet candy malt with caramel, burned roasted notes, a bit of alcohol and lactic acids. Rich and intense. Tasted April 2007.

tap at dba. Clear garnet/ruby tinted dark brown beer with a thin light brown head. Beautiful fruity aroma (grapes, plums, cherries) over lovely dark toasted malts. Prominent rummy aroma along with a touch of mint over a sweet maltiness. Flavour is nice, malt accented with strong toasted malts and plummy/pruny sweetness over brown sugar and dark rum. I liked the Oktoberfest and I like this, despite how much I dislike their Belgians... stick to Germany Avery, you do it well.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 CaptainCougar (6833) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - NOV 5, 2006
Pours a dark mahogany with ruby hues and a large, frothy, nicely-lacing light tan head. Aroma has a good amount of sweet dark wheat and bready German yeasty notes with a touch of graininess and banana clove spice. Body starts sweet and viscous with nice authentic flavor and smooth malted wheatiness with a slightly drier, bready finish. Very true to style and enjoyable.

Red-foxy amber, small amberish head. Alcohol & higher alcohols. Fusels, heated yeast esters. In the taste, licorice, sweet, alcoholic, no wheat, no extra esters. Burning, cloying and oily, viscous. This is not really very subtle, and not Adam’s best. Pushing the yeast to the limit, yes?

Bottled - LCRBM2 - A dark brown coloured beer with no head. The aroma is very sweet with lots of alcohol. Almost a brandy like touch to it. There are hops and smoke also. The taste is hoppy yet wheaty. Sweet caramel flavours and nuts. Very tasty, and a typically American take on a Weizen Bock.

Pours with an ultra dark brown body accompanied by a largish, creamy, light brown head. Good lacing from the head. Aroma is metallicy, with vanilla, plum, rotten banana, and some brown sugar. Taste is burnt malts, some fruityness, spicines, and then a nutty after taste with some yeasty saltiness. Smooth mouthfeel.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 3fourths (6388) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUN 17, 2006
UPDATED: APR 6, 2011 Dark brown, murky appearance. Viscous filmy coating on the glass. Strong alcohol noticed, qquite sharp, with maple and light smoke in the aroma. Chewy texture, warming, sharp, brittle flavor. Has a decent light smoked maple flavor, with some dates, plums, wood and graham cracker notes. Reminds me slightly ov Aventinus, but with more brash hop character and less lemon yeast flavors. Very good overall., though a little overhopped.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 MartinT (6340) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 10, 2007
My Bottom Line:
Candied dark fruit and clovey spiciness smoothe into a hefty body made for sipping. This Americanized Weizen Bock will surely please malt lovers looking for intimacy.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam shields the darkened burgundy.
-Effervescence is rather soft for the style.
-Alcohol is very well-hidden.
-Some roastiness appears, as supporting herbal hops attempt to dry out the finish, which remains mostly sweet.
Bottle; no date.
