Cloudy auburn with a red tint, this brew has a small but retentive tan head with decent lacing. Tiny bubbles. Malty aroma with a slap of quick alchohol at the end of a whiff. Flavor is sweet and malty throughout with a potent alchoholic kick at the end of the swallow. An unusual flavor akin to soy sauce plays a interesting, but not overwhelming role.

22oz. bomber. Dark brown color with a large tan head. Aroma of chocolate malts, banana, dark fruits and alcohol. Mildly sweet malt flavor with a strong alcohol presence. Some banana, cloves and dark fruits in there as well. I usually like Avery’s big beers but this one just didn’t do it for me.

Pours a deep brown with ruby highlights and a creamy light brown head. Minimal lacing. The aroma has sweet wheat, a light malt, bananas, and dried fruits. Tastes much the same with the addition of hot spices and a hit of alcohol. Dry, alcohol filled finish. Not bad, but missed my expectations.

Bottle. I found this to be a little on the boozy side in both aroma and taste. Not terribly hot, but more than what I expected. Good bit of yeast is aroma and taste. Fruity. Some sweetness. Good bit of malt.

Bottle from Uber Tavern. Cloudy dark red/light brown with decent head. Nice subtle sweetness with aroma of banana and a little yeast. Decent take on a Weizen Bock...but lots of room for improvement. Smooth and very drinkable with no dominating tastes...a bit too sweet. Tastes of roasted malts, wheat, chocolate and an alcohol bite are all subtle; almost seems a bit watered down.

Caramelly and chocolatey on the nose. Pours dark brown with a thin white head. Caramel and molasses dominate the flavor, its very smooth but i can taste the age in it.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2007 I can’t think of a single thing that a goat and the number thirteen have in common, but somehow they come together to identify the per annum Avery brew. This year it’s a Weizen Eisbock with a distinct lacking of any goat or numerical flavors. Instead it takes on the character of an old fashioned dessert, from nose to mouth. The head breathes and bubbles like a kitchen sponge the color of light caramel. Beneath the outer crust the head turns into smaller, pushier bubbles with the same energy of a freshly poured Coke. A rich aroma of marshmallows, maple syrup, sweet licorice, banana taffy and Nestle’s chocolate syrup pushes its way into the nostrils and conjures images of a classic, old fashioned banana split. I remember finding this same aroma at a local diner called Gunder Toody’s, famous for its 1950’s-esque décor and doowap music selection. The flavor falls in suit with the smell, but clouds the flavors with dust and chalk more familiar in a Utah dessert than in a beer aligned to be a drinkable dessert.

Bottle. Red/brown. Yeasty aroma, fruity with a hint of banana. Very soft mouthfeel, high carbonation, flavour is dominated by fruit, bread and caramel. Though this is a good beer, I still prefer the german versions.

Pours a deep brown, reddish with very little tan head. Big malty and sweet aroma, kinda chocolatey, touch of yeast. The flavor is mainly sweet maltyness, brownsuagr, maple syrup predominate. A bit of fruityness, maybe raisins & dates. Has a chcolatey aspect, with a light yeast background. It has a syrupy body, and is a bit viscous. Has a late subtle nuttyness. It’s pretty sweet & rich in flavor, alcohol is present. Not too drinkable. Something is also lacking to fully develop the flavor.
