COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

From a capped 22 oz. gold foil wrapped neck brown bomber bottle with a blurb along the right side of label that I actually found to be an pretty accurate description of this dopplebock, the year bottled, 2006, and other info on lower center of label. Poured a solid ruby hued brown with a foamy off-white/beige head that settled into a thin lacing, minimal amount of sticking. Aromas of fruity and spicy esters from the yeast, as stated on the label, toffee and bready, a caramelized sugary and brief whiffs of alcohol. Nice moderate doppelbock carbonation and a crisp, malty textured, smooth medium bodied mouthfeel. Delicious tasting, dark fruits, plums and ripe raisins with a bit rum-like spice, a light chocolate toffee, caramelized sugar malty, the alcohol has a little spicy heat and provides a nice warmth in the palate, a sweet breadiness emerges towards the end and a subtle fruity and caramelized malty finish, good dopplebock drinkability, dangerously quaffable. For Avery, I was surprised how much this was a straight forward attempt at a dopplebock, very little of the Avery twist, but still, another quality big beer from this Colorado brewer.

Thanks to SecretSanta Degarth for sending this my way. Nice black body with a light tan head. Aroma is similar to Belgian beers, fruits such as fig, cherry along with a nice yeasty accent. Taste is very nice, similar to a Abt/Quad in my opinion. Very complex fruit notes, some extremely light wheat. Smooth yet slightly spice ending. Overall a very nice beer.

Bottle @ Københavnske Øldage 2007 in Copenhagen. Unclear medium brown color with a average forthy / fizzy fair lacing mostly diminishing off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, molasses / bread, roadsted, toffee, light alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light bitter with a long duration. Very nice balance ! Body is full, texture is oily, syrupy, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic.

Bomber I found in the back of my cellar when looking for something that also has gold foil. So I thought why not pop this seemed to be as good of a time as any. Shared with my Girlfriend Cyn, this is pretty much only the 2nd big beer of the night. Appaently I bought this at South bay for 6 bucks a ways back. Pours blackish brown witha 1 finger tan head. Looks like a dopplebock, not a weizenbock to me. Nose is sweet and chocolaty. Taste mirrors the nose, nice, choco and sweet and rich. A very nice dopplebock, not a weizenbock in any way shape or form.

Flaske: Overraskende frisk. Flot dybrød/brun næsten uigennemsigtig øl med et lille skumhoved. God duft af bær og en smule hvede. Smagen er domineret af balanceret alkohol på den gode måde. Bitter finish. Oloroso karakter med en tør eftersmag. Virkelig godt lagret. Super øl.

UPDATED: APR 28, 2008 Pours almost black with red tint when held to light and a very nice thick creamy layer of white foam that leaves lace. Palate is silky and gorgeous, not too thick not too thin. Very drinkable. Smell is smoky and chalky. Flavors are rich, malty, raisin, prune with some lingering delicate malt sweetness. Very nice! Re-rate = up from 3.8!
