4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 superspak (1475) - Michigan, USA - AUG 21, 2012
22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 2005. Pours hazy golden amber color with a good 1-2 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Good foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big cinnamon, allspice, ginger, biscuit, pepper, clove, coriander, lemon zest, wheat, herbal, floral, earth, and yeast spiciness. Fantastic aromas with great balance and spice complexity; reminiscent of cinnamon toast crunch a bit. Taste of lemon, pear, toast, cinnamon, allspice, ginger, pepper, coriander, wheat, herbal, floral, clove, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of citrus, pepper, cinnamon, clove, herbal, floral, and yeast spices on the finish for a good bit. Nice flavor complexity and balance; zero cloying sweetness. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly slick and slightly crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is was a fantastic saison!(even being 7 years old). Great spice balance and complexity and extremely smooth to sip on. This was very highly enjoyable.

21st June 2010 Cloudy gold beer, Short lived frothy white head. Light semi dry palate. The hops have probably faded after 5 years. What remains is very interesting. Almost Gruit like. Sweet malt, a little citrus and lots of sweet chamomile and lavender. Almost perfumed. Finishes sweet with a minty feel. Nicest Gruit ever! Smooth and sweet.

A: The pour is a clear golden amber color with a finger’s worth of mildly off-white head.
S: A huge cinnamon sugar aroma with some all spice and nutmeg too. Some hints of bread, but the cinnamon aroma is just completely overpowering.
T: The cinnamon sugar flavor would be fine by itself, but it’s mixed with eucalyptus/menthol, which is in no way enjoyable. A slight burn on the tongue and throat, reminiscent of one of those teas one might drink when sick.
M: The body is medium with a carbonation that is on the low end of medium.
D: No thanks. As previously mentioned, the cinnamon might be fine on its own, but not with the addition of the burning heat of the menthol.

hazy gold with large white head. some lemon peal and tea to the nose. some yeast spice remains with a touch of spice with a healthy touch of oxidation. the age ends up stripping this beer of the vitality it likely once had and results in a drinkable but unremarkable version

demonstrative and spicy balanced well with a Christmas spice effect that is offset with a hop and herb character. full, fruity and zesty indeed with a yeasty body that is sweet and satisfying.

22 oz. bottle (from notes). Pours an extremely hazy golden amber with a large frothy off white head. The aroma had pale malts with spices and a nice combination of fruits; banana and hints of peach. The flavor had pale malts, grass, cinnamon and nutmeg, combination of fruits. Medium bodied, smooth with good carbonation. The carbonation allows the aroma to come through.

Bottle at Paul’s saison tasting. Pours a somewhat murky light brown with a thin white head. Huge cinnamon and nutmeg and a bit of pizza. More cinnamon, a bit sweet, somewhat like a smore. Finishes up with more dusty cinnamon. Held up well.

Bomber generously shared by footbalm. Pours a very cloudy yellow with a medium white foamy head. The aroma is very different; huge tropical fruits, herbs, spices, stands out as powerful and nice. The flavor is similarly tart, fruity, pineapples, juicy and not dry as you might expect from a saison. Pretty damn nice.
