No. 15, much like a certain fabled two-piece candy bar of our youth, rich, dark chocolate notes accented with aromatic toasted coconut. What would add depth and character to this already delicious combo, we wondered? The answer is time (6 months) well spent in the very best rum barrels available.

Pours dark daark brown with a little cream head that quickly disappears and some coconut floating on top. Aroma is nice but off point for what it is; nice barrel influence and rum, some vanilla, some roastiness, but not quite getting too much coconut. There is definitely some heat to this, as I would expect from past Avery offerings and just the fact that its 17%. Flavor is super sweet; lots of coconut and vanilla, tons of sugar, rum and its barrel, some chocolate. Mouthfeel is thick and straight up viscous, which I usually like but found was a detractor for this beer to a degee. Overall, definitely sweet as hell but kinda enjoyable in moderation. I split this bottle with a friend, would have even been better off having split it between 2 others. Would not drink this again.

12oz bottle. Pitch black pour with little head and tiny white floaters. Knowing this is just coconut and coconut oils and it was intentional helps but it's still weird. Nose is a boozy chocolate coconut bomb. Taste is like a rum soaked Almond Joy. One dimensional? Yes, but what a dimension. Awesome taste but super sweet. Nice thick oily mouthfeel. I likey. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from 12 oz bottle. Shared this one with 48FaninCali. Pours very dark brown, nearly black with tan head. There are some white floaties in there from the coconut. You can’t taste them or notice them when you drink it. Aroma is huge coconut, vanilla, chocolate and booze. Taste is the same...it is very hot still with lots of booze. Tastes like a Mounds bar with alcohol. Tasty stuff. Super sweet. Glad I shared the 12 oz bottle, as a full 12 oz would have knocked me on my ass and sent me into a diabetic coma.

Bottle. Pours black with tan head. Aroma is strong coconut, sweet, molasses, rich, chocolate- tons going on. Taste is silky smooth, lots of coconut, very sweet, dessert-like. This is exceptional.

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2014 Poured from bottle to snifter. Dark hue with tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coconut, vanilla, sweet rum, caramel. Mouthfeel is great with full body and good carbonation. Taste is sweet throughout with a slight tannic following and ethanol finish. Overall this is an absolutely fantastic brew.

Extremely sweet with some almond flavors, as well as brown sugar, rum, and oak notes. Very boozy, yet easy to drink.

Pours a brown color with an off white head. Big aromas of coconut and oak. Flavors of coconut with a well balanced oak, vanilla and bourbon flavor.

Pour is dark and slightly transparent. Taste is rum sugar, followed by more sugar. Floaters and coconut oil swirls all over the pour. Filtering evidently did not work here. I feel that with the residual fat and proteins from the coconut floating around on the top of my pour, that quality control might need to be addressed. I have ever had a beer from Avery with a pour from a bottle that Looked like this. Not even black tot.

Looks a bit weak in the glass, no head/lacing and has a hazy brownish-black color. Smells amazing, sweet coconut, dark rum and chocolate. Taste is more of the same. Sweet coconut, chocolate with vanilla, bakers chocolate and no booze. Lingering hints of rum tie the whole thing together. I heard it called a liquid mounds bar and I have to agree. Christ its good The appearance was a glaring weakness, beyond that it’s incredibly good. It’s very, very sweet but is so well done it doesn’t come across as cloying.
