COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
No. 15, much like a certain fabled two-piece candy bar of our youth, rich, dark chocolate notes accented with aromatic toasted coconut. What would add depth and character to this already delicious combo, we wondered? The answer is time (6 months) well spent in the very best rum barrels available.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with rapidly settling tan head, no lacing. Aroma is rum, alcohol, and extremely sweet, hint of coconut. Flavor is very sweet, mild caramel, vanilla, with minimal rum and coconut flavor. Possibly the sweetest beer I have ever tasted. Fruity, dark, juicy finish and aftertaste. Rum character develops as it warms. Soft carbonation, full body, and smooth, sticky texture. A very intensely sweet beer, couldn’t drink much of this.

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Firestone restaurant glass From: Beer Advocate’s ucsbmullet Price: N/A Purchased: Received it on Oct. 10, 2013 Consumed: Nov. 28, 2013 Misc.: Bottled June 4, 2013; 17.09% ABV A big thanks to Nick for the kind gift. Poured an almost pitch black cloud color with 2-to-3 fingers of tan head that dissipated almost immediately. Minimal lacing on the sides of the glass. Below average retention all the way down. Smelled a mix of a lot of different flavors. Got coconut, crayon, toast, wood, vanilla, rum, dark chocolate, caramel, toffee (a bit like Rolo’s candy), Cherry Coke and some more rum. Tasted much better than the smell. Got chocolate, dark chocolate, wood, smooth rum, dry coconut, crayon, almost burnt toast, Rolo’s candy, caramel and toffee. Medium body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth, warming finish. Tastes strong, but not 17.09 percent strong. After starting off fairly weak, this beer really came on. I enjoyed it very much. Would love to get my hands on it again.

Pours dark daark brown with a little cream head that quickly disappears and some coconut floating on top. Aroma is nice but off point for what it is; nice barrel influence and rum, some vanilla, some roastiness, but not quite getting too much coconut. There is definitely some heat to this, as I would expect from past Avery offerings and just the fact that its 17%. Flavor is super sweet; lots of coconut and vanilla, tons of sugar, rum and its barrel, some chocolate. Mouthfeel is thick and straight up viscous, which I usually like but found was a detractor for this beer to a degee. Overall, definitely sweet as hell but kinda enjoyable in moderation. I split this bottle with a friend, would have even been better off having split it between 2 others. Would not drink this again.

Bottle. Pours black with tan head. Aroma is strong coconut, sweet, molasses, rich, chocolate- tons going on. Taste is silky smooth, lots of coconut, very sweet, dessert-like. This is exceptional.

12oz bottle. Pitch black pour with little head and tiny white floaters. Knowing this is just coconut and coconut oils and it was intentional helps but it's still weird. Nose is a boozy chocolate coconut bomb. Taste is like a rum soaked Almond Joy. One dimensional? Yes, but what a dimension. Awesome taste but super sweet. Nice thick oily mouthfeel. I likey. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2014 Poured from bottle to snifter. Dark hue with tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coconut, vanilla, sweet rum, caramel. Mouthfeel is great with full body and good carbonation. Taste is sweet throughout with a slight tannic following and ethanol finish. Overall this is an absolutely fantastic brew.

Bottle pour shared - little head over a black body. Aroma is coconut, sweet malt, wood and overarching sweetness. Good stuff, particularly as it warms. Flavor is quite enticing - heavy on the chocolate with toasted coconut, malt, more than a hint of booze, roasted malt, and a strong overarching sweetness. Palate is very syrupy and thick - minimal carbonation - a serious sipper that drinks close to its ABV. Glad to share this treat - would actually be quite the task to knock out a full bottle of this, but happy to try it once!

Poured from 12 oz bottle. Shared this one with 48FaninCali. Pours very dark brown, nearly black with tan head. There are some white floaties in there from the coconut. You can’t taste them or notice them when you drink it. Aroma is huge coconut, vanilla, chocolate and booze. Taste is the same...it is very hot still with lots of booze. Tastes like a Mounds bar with alcohol. Tasty stuff. Super sweet. Glad I shared the 12 oz bottle, as a full 12 oz would have knocked me on my ass and sent me into a diabetic coma.

Extremely sweet with some almond flavors, as well as brown sugar, rum, and oak notes. Very boozy, yet easy to drink.
