COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sui Generis, which is #2 in our new Barrel-Aged Series, will debut at the Avery Tap Room on Wednesday, September 23rd from 3-8 PM. Due to extremely limited quantities of this brew (<150 cases will be produced), 12oz. single bottles will be sold only at the Avery Tap Room, between 3 PM and 8 PM on September 23rd. Sui Generis is a complex ale, aged and artfully blended from several types of oak barrels, and displays a delightful lactic sourness complimented by hints of brett, oak, and acetic. Intricate yet bold, deeply complex yet surprisingly refreshing, Sui Generis was crafted in the tradition of perennial Tap Room favorites De Vogelbekdieren and Voltron.
A blend of ales from 39% Cabernet Sauvignon barrels, 35% Chardonnay barrels, 13% Port barrels and 13% Bourbon barrels.

Melon, and dark berry vanilla, a little sweet. Cloudy orange brown, minimal head. Very sort of citric sour upfront, followed by some melon and berry sweetness and some subtle oakiness that becomes more prominent as it finishes. Extremely lively acidic palate. Really interesting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. *** GUSHER ALERT **** Major Gusher. Poured a cloudy amber color with an off white head. Fruity, vinous, caramel, and funky. I wished this one didn’t gush, as it was nice and hated to see 1/2 the bottle spewed all over the bar.

Bottle from bu11zeye. Pours hazy amber with a thick cream beige head. Aroma is quite sour flowers and malt. Med body or nearly. Flavor is sour but the cab and oak are prominent. Quite red berry. Very sour, woody and pleasing. Rather mellow finish (for a sour!).

Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours cloudy amber with some floaties , a sour fruit aroma and an attractive off-white head. There is a mellow pleasantly sour caramel malt flavor. Still some carbonation and a good deal of oak. A lovely drink.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, very foamy, egg shell white head, lasts pretty well. Aroma brought notes of nice tart red fruits, dark fruits, hints of oak, tannins, hints of the typical avery sour blend yeast, slight vanilla. Taste is a mix of nice white fruits, hints of oak, caramel, toffee, hints of nice lemon, touch of vanilla, slight earth, finishing sweet, slightly bitter, oaky, dry. Held up well.

12 ounce bottle
This lurked for a while in the cellar before I shared it with tastybeer. A very fine sour beer, I wish that I had a few more of these lurking around. They are spendy but seem to hold up well if treated with respect. If you have any you wish to get rid of you know how to find me.

Aroma / Appearance - The stiff white head settles down into a caramelized murky base. Carbonation breathes life into the glass to keep it interesting. Tart, slightly vinegary aromas waft with a citrusy tang of oranges and lemons. Hints of bourbon barrel aging sneak in from time to time to give more depth.

Flavor / Palate - Lactic notes dominate from the first sip. Mildly sour compared to big intense lambics it has a bite but is not overwhelming. Orange cheesecake carries into a acidic finish. This is not quite world class but it is not far off the mark either. If you are lucky enough to have one sitting around then enjoy a treat.
