3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2010 Bottle - Thanks JohnGalt1!!! - Pours thick and dark as coffee with a small dk brown head...aroma is wood and cocoa, tannic oak, rum soaked raisin and very light cherry...flavour is similar, lactic wood, lightly tart fruit, cherry finish that counters a cocoa and vanilla body, coconut...very light infection that was thankfully mitigated by my boy Toby’s deep fridge, this was still enjoyable even if different from the intent...

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tasted on 11/16/13 from a capped 12oz bottle at our Avery Barrel-Aged tasting. Pours extremely dark brown with some very light tan lace. The nose is very oxidized and nutty, lots of dark roast, coffee, and some vanilla oak. The flavor is all about the vanilla oak, some oxidized nutiness, very dry molasses, and a touch of something sour. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long roasted and vanilla finish. I remember hearing about bottles of this being infected, and this was likely one of those, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been.

3.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Weird mineral stout smell. Taste is much better than the smell though and it’s actually a pretty solid roasty stout and the rum comes through decently.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
my last bottle of this. hope this is one of the good ones as they have been iffy. solid black pour with a minimal dark grey head. strong alcohol nose, you can tell there is something rum related even if you haven’t seen the description. a shit ton of milk chocolate in there too. even with the boozey nose this is inviting. thin body, slightly acidic tartness in the rum dominant flavor. chocolate comes out weak and late in this. this is not one of the better bottles. i’ve had some over the years i would rate high 3’s, but this isn’t one of them and overall there were more misses than hits on this particular experiment.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
All of the first 10 from the series were shared by craftbeerdesign. Black pour with ruby edges. Smell was biscuity, toffee, cocoa. Taste showed a slight cherry tartness that made for a very interesting experience. Thick dark malts, ripe fruitiness, sweet and dark chocolate, toffee. Great thick oily palate. Overall this was still quite nice considering the unindended souring.

Pretty cool stuff...no one makes really strong beer better than Avery. Strong, roasty, slightly boozy, yet very easy to drink. Roasty, booze, carmel. Good shit.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Buckeye Beer Engine in Lakewood, OH. Bottled on 1-13-2010. Very dark brown oily looking pour. Minimal head. Aroma is tart cherries and mild oats. Moderate palate - thinner than the appearance would suggest. Quite tart on the taste. Pretty good initially but its starting to wear a little thin as I get futher into this glass.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20
Thanks to Tony for bringing by a brew I had never heard of. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured black and oily with a medium sized foamy very dark brown head that faded fairly quickly but left good lacing. The aroma was a pleasant mix of toasty malts, anise and hints of coconut and chocolate. The flavor was sour and tart cherries and berries followed by lactic acid and faint chocolate syrup. Long tart and sour cherry and chocolate finish. Moderately full bodied and silky. Disappointing.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle, sent from Alen (thanks man), pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma of rum barrels upfront, sweet roasted malts, some oats and chocolate. Flavour is very tart, with rum barrels which likely create the sourness, chocolate, tart red berries, a bit of acidity and alcohol. Palate is soft and medium-bodied, finishing on tart, chocolatey and rummy notes. Not usually being a fan of sour stouts, this one is very enjoyable. Great stuff.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
They will all get sour over the years.
Smell is nothing but rum and otameal. Flavor is tart chocolate. Almost similar to 90% cocoa chocolate bars; bitter but good. For what you get you can’t expect this beer to be anything better than what it has developed into.
