3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy brown, no real head/lace. Barrel galore on the nose, quite sour, good stuff. Fruit gets covered a little by the barrel, enjoyable nonetheless.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. Poured clear, rich, ruddy brown with a short beige head that settled to a dusting quickly. The aroma picked up sour cherries, oak, leather, and red wine vinegar with a deeper, almost candied sweetness.. tangy and aggressive on the nose, but I enjoyed it. The flavor was very tart and bracing on the tip of the tongue with sour cherries and vinegar leading.. cherry meat and assorted dark fruits supported.. oak and vinegar sourness laced throughout.. finished dry, but with a decent dose of residual sugars.. peppery and warm all the way to the belly.. tasty stuff. Medium-ish bodied with low carbonation.. assertive and engaging, with a lot of barrel and fruit character.. nice one!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle from adnielsen (shared with Tmoney99 July ’12) Pours a clear light brown color with a small white head. The aroma has caramel malts, sour cherry, wood, some musty notes and a big vinous quality. The flavor is pretty intense; dry, sour, tart cherry, caramel, wood, vinous and acidic. I like this now, but wonder what some age would do.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
All of the first 10 from the series were shared by craftbeerdesign. This one was the most sour/tart out of all the first 10 that I had. Pours murky brown. The super tart cherries/tannins just take over and that is all I get. Grapes skins all over. Wow is that sour.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Poured into a tulip. Bottled Jun 29, 2011.
3.0 A: Moderately hazed medium amber color. Short lived fizzy off-white head.
3.5 S: Big cherry notes right from the start. Moderately tart with a potent helping of acetic acid. Plum, raisin, mixed berry, and pomagranate fruits. Caramel maltiness with vinous grape. Mildly earthy with a tough of musty funk and some outdoorsy dirtiness. Lightly tannic with soft vanilla and oak notes. Booze is well hidden.
3.5 T: Again tart cherries lead the way. More funky and less fruity than the nose, though the fruits mentioned are still easily discernable. Vinous grape is a lot more apparent though. Caramel, hints of brown sugar, and toastiness. Moderate acetic acid and a surprisingly amount of tangy lactic acid. Basement must funk predominates. Tannic astringency is a little stronger than I’d like, but it’s not too distracting. Booze is also apparent in the taste, but again, not too distracting. Lots of oak and a mild vanilla.
3.0 M: Medium body. Moderate carbonation, but it’s a little too bity for my liking. Also lacking creaminess.
3.0 D: Decent beer, but it’s a little too unrefined. More astringency than I’d like, harsh carbonation, and not enough flavor integration. Might be better with more time, but it’s still a little rough right now.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours a clear ruby amber with a thin to medium sized beige head that falls off steadily but remains around the edges. Big sweet fruit and tart acid right away, loads of lovely cherries with just the faintest bit of an acetic note behind it. Lots of body here, great mouthfeel, and the alcohol does peek through a bit. Incredibly tart, lots of bright acidity on the edges of the tongue. Lingering acid all the way through, cherries and a gentle alcohol warmth. This is big and beautiful.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
In short: A vinous, oaky/tannic, fruity, medium-sour and somewhat refreshing strong sour ruby ale. Very good.
How: Bottle 12oz, consumed when over one year of age, bottle sent to me by adnielsen, thanks a lot Aaron.
The look: Clear dark ruby body tiooed bt a small beige head leaving minimal lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is full of barrels, tannins jumping into my nostrils, wild bretty notes going the stinky feet way. Taste is a mix of woody red wine, berries and fresh red cherries. Then add to this a whole lot of oak tannins, a surprising light chocolate flavor. Juicy-fruity attack then developing into a sourness of medium intensity and leading to an astringent dry finish. Almost no alcohol presence. Thick oily-juicy body with a medium carbonation. Unexpectedly ‘refreshing’ for a 10% barrel aged beer with fruity flavors that are fresh and juicy. Very tannic yet not too aggressive on the palate. Very easy to drink for the style and gravity. After that beer I told my wife that if I ever become famous because of my ratebeer ratings then I…. not sure where I was going with this, I totally lost my train of thoughts because of my wife hysterical laughter.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle:   Reddish amber, moderate haze, thin sudsy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Tart woody nose, seems like a Sour type ale to me.   Tart up front, slightly vinous, with a woody background.   Slight under ripened
cherry flavor.   Decent, but not as dry as other examples.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Dry finish, tart, woody, remains a little vinous in the white wine sense.   Nice, but nothing out of the ordinary for a sour.
Well put together tho.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Reddish brown color, decent off white head. Nose was tart fruit, barnyard notes, light biscuit and straw malt with dank cellar notes.Taste was of sour cherries, vinous notes, horseblanket, light carmel, light oak and light spice with a crisp dry tart lingering funky cherry finish. Another great beer in the Avery barrel aged series.
