Black, small tan head of foam, quickly dissipates. Wee bit of lacing left behind. A very strong nose. Bourbon, chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, in that order. Oh my, itís tasting superb! The bourbon is very strong but it doesnít over power everything else. The chocolate is sweet, the roasted malt adds the bitterness, and then thereís the coffee infusion. Fresh ground like. The 17.81% abv is not hidden very well but in this case, I donít think it needs to be nor can be as this was bottled just a month ago. Full bodied with medium carbonation, it is very smooth. This brew would be a joy to cellar and see what transpires. I reckon it would go for MANY years.

Bottle->snifter. Bottle info: 17.81% ABV, bottled on October 28, 2014. Black with huge brown head. A: bourbon, anise, vanilla, chocolate malt. T: bourbon, vanilla, oak, coffee, dark chocolate, malt. Thick, smooth. This is a huge bourbon stout. Really good, if a tad too boozy.

Bottle to glass. Pours a pitch black color with a creamy medium brown head. Aroma is a fantastic roasted malts, chocolate, light coffee and touch of bourbon. Flavor has a big roasted malt and burnt coffee bitterness, quite hot. Medium to heavy body with a hot alcohol burn and a lingering burnt coffee bitter. Excellent beer overall. One of the best of Averyís barrel series.

On draft at Avery. Shared by a kind soul. I didnít search like Dak and Doug, but it was tempting in order to get more. Pours a deep brown with a tan head. Nose is big coffee, chocolate, bourbon, and vanilla. Flavor follows with fudgy chocolate, coffee, some light roast and a bit of vanilla and bourbon. Medium in body and for a bruiser of this size, itís delightful.

Man, what a search. On tap at Avery during 2012 GABF week. It runs out as I am in line! I run around scanning peopleís glasses in search of a soul to share- yes I did that. I almost gave up until one person offers it to me! Pours a totally black color, no head. A huge nose of bourbon and coffee. Of course, a similar flavor of massive coffee, smooth sweet barrel, actually this is understated despite being 16%. Drinkable.
