A-pours a dark brown basically black liquid with a light brown head, thin tight bubbles. S-the nose has some oak up front, lots of sweet cherries with a touch of sourness to it. there are some deep vinous qualities. sawdusty leathery brett in the back with a faint roasted quality. T-the taste is much more muddled. the brett is a lot stronger and much less integrated. the roasted malt is also more present towards the back with a big cherry sweetness in the finish. the leather brett is there, the oak is very faint if present at all. a little bit of sourness but very light. M-light body, a little oily, slightly thin in the back and light carbonation. D-this is a decent sour, nothing very good here. the nose was much more integrated, the taste started to become slightly flabby and it lacked the tight dry body I enjoy in a good sour.

Bottle from a generous trader. Pours dark black. Brown head. Nose/taste of oak, dark chocolate, wild yeast and sour cherry. Taste has lots of medicinal qualities. Light acidity. Medium body.

Bottle:   Surprisingly dark, nearly black, large foamy light tannish head, nice lacing.   Strong woody aroma, very much infused with cherries.   Smells so friggen good!!!   Very smooth on the tongue, not real sour, mainly tart, a bit of dryness but its minor, woody, again minor, with a moderate sweetness.   Its a big bag of moderate wood, cherry, and tartness, with a nice mix of sweetness.   This is good sh1t!   As it warms, it becomes even smoother.   This beer is very approachable.   Its not real sour, nor real tart, has a slight dryness, woody, with some nice cherry aspects, almost chocolate covered!   Good body, smooth mouthfeel.   I held onto this one for a long time, and I am glad I did (year and a half?).   Fairly mellow, but very smooth.   Not big, heavy, bright... but just right.   Clean, with a nice crisp clean finish, tart, woody, with lingering unripened cherries.   This totally hit the spot as a night capper!   Only wished it was a bit more KAPOW with the heat.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dark deep brown color ale with a nice thick brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of vinous notes with light dry fruits notes. Taste is a quite complex mix with great notes of Zinfandel and dry plums with light residual sweetness. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Very complex mix between the wine barrel and the dark Belgian ale used as the base beer.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of foppa78. Thanks! Very deep red/brown appearance with a sizable brown head. Deep acetic acid with more mild lactic acid in the nose. Mixed with that sourness is some red fruits, wood, and a slight vinous note. Huge acetic acid, vinegar, slightly lactic acid flavor. Quite dry vinous finish with a slight alcoholic burn. The flavor has a much weaker fruit flavor than most sours. The red grape flavor is somewhat prominent. Funky, acidic, wild finish. Interesting beer but the vinegar/red wine flavor is a little extreme for me.

After hearing how bad this, and seeing 2 people gag in front of me, the ticker in me still stupidly gave this is a try. Served in a Bells tulip...Pours a super dark brown, can’t beleive how dark this is. No carbanation at all...The aroma is ok, light wood, vinous, sweet, just not much funk, hard to think of this as a wild...The taste is terrible, no funk, woody, harsh, stale.

Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights and a thin off white head that dissipates quickly. Smells of brett, lemons, sour cherries, almost a smoked malt character in there, maybe from the barrel. Taste is fruity and funky. A bit of phenol, spicy Belgian yeast, and a touch of alcohol mid way. Finishes quite dry but leaves a lingering funk mixed with lemons on my palette. Carbonation is middle of the road, refreshing as a lot of sours seem over carbonated to me. Body is medium with a dry finish. Mouthfeel is syrupy. The brett character comes out well in this. Easy drinker, for a funkified brown ale.

Bottle dated Feb 10 2009, tasted on 3/18/11. It pours dark ruddy brown with a large tan head. The aroma is lovely with tart cherries and underlying hints of dark pitted fruit. Lots of wine barrel notes with hints of horsey brett. The flavor has lots of fig, cherry, dates before some light tartness. There is hints of sweet malt, but its quickly overpowered by a dry, funky, bretty finish. Not as sour as expected, but definitely wild and pretty tasty.
