Pours a dark brown color with a thin caramel head. Has an aroma of dark fruit, vinegar, and curant. Sweet and carbonated up front. Dry, malty, and slightly bitter finish. Has a cherry like aftertaste. Interesting brew.

I’m pretty sure this is only my second 5 but it was definately deserving. Bottle pours deep brown with a thin khaki head. On first smell I feel in love. Aroma is juicy, sour and funky...... just the way I like it. I’m not even going to attempt to describe this now because it won’t even do it justice having only tasted 1 bottle. There is sooooo much depth that I found something new in every sip and smell. I only picked one of these up by chance, but now I’m going back to wipe out the rest of them. I’m slowly becoming an Avery fan.

There is a sour barnyard aroma, the brett and wild ale give this. The sour aroma really developes after the temperature settles. The color is very dark amber with a small bubbly head. The flavor starts out sour and malty and then settles quickly with very little aftertaste. It is a very smooth wild ale on the palate.

Pours a dark thick brown color with a tan head. Persuasive aroma of dark fruit, vinegar and funk. Flavor of vinegar, dark fruit, brett, and wood. So much going on. Well done.

Bottle split with dallas at Belgian cafe. Pours a thick blackish brown body. Aroma is crazy, roasty, tart, and spicy. Mouthfeel is nice complexity and medium with notes of sour tart cherry, wheat, Belgian spices- this brew was like a combination of 4 amazing beer styles.

Pitch black. Fruity nose. Floral fruity taste with a creamy finish. The bastard son of a saison and belgian stout. Very unique

Bottle, bottled 2/2009, imbibed 4/2010. Pours dark dark brown with a beige head. Bretty funky aroma with some light dark fruity vinious sweetness. The flavor has an excellent balance of funks and sweet notes, with brett and some fig-like fruity notes. Very good.

In short: An unconventional roasted sweet Flemish sour
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed about 1 year after the beer release. From dickinsonbeer? He brings me so much stuff I lose track.
The look: Very dark burgundy body (near black) topped by a medium tan head with low retention
In long: All I knew about this beer is that it is a sour ale so the near-black color threw me off a bit. From the nose I would have never guessed the color. Close your eyes and you smell a perfectly fine Flemish sour with of the strong oak and sour cherry notes with a bit of funk. Ok, maybe there’s some roastiness in the aroma when the beer warms up but it is secondary to the beer Flemish sour character. If anything it makes it more intriguing. Taste is a bit of a letdown. The Flemish sour character of the nose plays second violin to dark fruits, a lot of earth, flowering plants (vine or something), black pepper, heavily roasted malts, chewing tobacco, a strong alcohol presence that burns and feels a lot more than its mere 8.6%, some dark cherries, a bit sweet. All in all this is a strange concoction that kept my attention. Gets extra points for being very original. This beer is fun and very weird. Doesn’t really fit into any mold. But I embrace diversity, I wear mismatched socks.
