Pours deep brown with off white head, aroma is big wine, vinegar, funk, and some more sour acetic notes. Taste is not as good as the aroma, with some sweet grape taste leading into funk, barnyard, and some bitterness that finishes very dry. Great sour, balanced and not over the top, but very nice. This would be great to age if it was bottle conditioned!

Notes from 4 ounce sample at Pizza Port Belgian Beer Fest in March 2009. Nice burgundy color wcith thin layer of head. Complex aroma with profound leather. Flavor is equally complex and nice -- tangy, rich, sharp. Some vinegar-ish sourness in the finish. Good stuff.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 ruskiimperial (308) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - NOV 24, 2009
From a 12 oz bottle. This has a very sour smell, very indicative of the wild ale. Very very dark too, almost like a stout with a very light body. On the initial taste, there is a very sour taste you would expect from the zinfandel barrel aging. Mouthfeel is probably the highlight of this beer. The carbonation is incredibly smooth, in addition to the silky smooth way it sits in your mouth. Very well balanced. The only difference from the discription is that I believe its more of a sour ale than anything else.

Minimal head on this dark brown pour. An excellent aroma. An utterly superp aroma - brett funk intermingles with sweet chocolate malts initially with sour cherry and vinous grape character. Loads of brett funk and more chocolate and cherry flavors. Vanilla oak and zinfandel grapes round out a solid body.

Black with a creamy dark tan head. Chocolate oak and wine aroma. Smooth silky mouth feel. Chocolate grain white wine and oak taste with a pleasantly mellow sourness throughout.

[Bottle] Pours dark brown with a big rocky beige head that leaves good lacing on the glass as it subsides to a thin film. Aroma is nice and funky, with notes of smoke, and a lot of wine influence. Taste also has a good deal of funk, with a little alcohol, real sour cherries straight from the tree, grape, notes of raspberry, and some malt towards the back end. Average mouthfeel, smooth, and leaves me with lingering funkiness and a bitter taste in the semi-dry finish. Overall, a really nice beer, albeit too spendy for the amount you get.

Bottle pours cherry red color with off white head. Aroma is funky tart cherry. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is sour cherry with brett, funk, some tart qualities, and finishes smooth. The flavors meld together perfectly and is a solid beer.

Pours very dark reddish brown with tan head. Sour, bretty aroma with some vinous notes. Slightly sour with wood, wine and musty flavors. Medium body with moderate carbonation and a dry finish. Good stuff, better than I was expecting.

2009 Bottle - Thanks DrHomolka! - Pours a dk brown with a slight reddish tinge, and a medium, lasting creme coloured head...wasn’t expecting a dark brew, fun suprise, and maintains a great head and body even as it warms...aroma is big and bretty, tart oak, grape must...flavour is similary thick, heavy oak, nicely present phenols, bright fruit...those looking for an ass puckering sour will be disappointed, as this one favors finesse over brute force...I thought this was beautifully put together...

There is a sour barnyard aroma, the brett and wild ale give this. The sour aroma really developes after the temperature settles. The color is very dark amber with a small bubbly head. The flavor starts out sour and malty and then settles quickly with very little aftertaste. It is a very smooth wild ale on the palate.
