Straw colored pour w/ viz carbonation and a big whtie well coated head that laces well. Good well coated palate. Flavor is a west coast IPA hints of tangerine w/ the grapefruit and grass a tiny bit of sourness comes through in the aftertaste. Aroma of graepfruit and grass w/ hints of an earthy dirt & horseblanket. Good but odd, not heavily funked.

Draught at Sour Fest. Cloudy orange with thin white head. Aroma of citrus and pine hops, soap, light caramel and light funk. Taste is soapy hops and light funk from brett. Palate has good carbonation and is medium bodied. Big bitter finish (even more than their normal IPA).

BeerandBlues2 (6096) - Lone Tree, Colorado, USA - SEP 29, 2009
Draught at Avery, GABF week 2009. Pours clear dark yellow with an average frothy white head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is average malt (bread, grain, straw, cereal), heavy hop (flowers, grass, pine, grapefruit), heavy yeast (horse blanket, barnyard, cheese, earth) with notes of pepper, ginger, and coriander. Medium bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness and acidity, heavy bitterness.

Draught, Avery. Head is mostly lasting. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, cookie), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers), moderately yeasty (barnyard, horseblanket), with notes of gum, band-aid, and manure. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The Brett is a little rough and too far out in front, but otherwise pretty fun.

Tap at Avery - lovely hazy gold pour with an impressive, thick, lasting head - the flavor is pretty much what you would expect - an aggressive, citric hop profile with a fair amount of brett - it works, though - the brett is fairly prominent in this, with a lot of horseblanket and barnyardy character, as well as moderate phenols and come pineapple character - the hops compliment this fairly well - the sweetness is a little higher than I like in my bretty beers, but otherwise a neat and tasty experiment.

2008 GABF week @ Avery. Unfiltered hazy gold color with a white head. Weird funky brett band-aid nose... the brett is the same used in 15th Anniversary, and sorry, I just can’t stand it... not sure if it’s the particular strain or just how Avery uses it, but it really just comes off far too heavy with the band-aid and plastic phenol notes. Old cheese, feet funk... I mean, that sort of stuff is good when you do it right - see Chouffe, Zinnebir and Taras Boulba - but here nearly all of the hop character is gone from the IPA, and it’s just a messy, band-aid heavy mess... smells like your foot after it’s been wrapped in gauze for a week.

MaltDawg (1346) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - OCT 16, 2008
Date: 10/10/2008 Sample at Avery tasting room during GABF week. IPA with Brett fermentation in secondary. Aroma was funky hops - no surprise there. Orange golden with small white head. Flavor was a mixture of hops and farmhouse funk. Needed a bit more sourness I think. Folks really into Lambics might like this, but it was a waste of effort on me. 2 points for originality!
