Roasty aroma. Color is black with a tan head. Flavor is intense with coffee and boozy character and a touch of alcohol in the finish. Notes: On tap at the new brewery during GABF week ’15

On tap. Black inky pour with small frothy tan head. Aroma is big time coffee, espresso, caramel, roasted malts, chocolate fudge and fruits. Taste of espresso, chocolate fudge, coffee, molasses, roasted malts, burnt caramel and faint ripe fruits. Full bodied, lower carbonation, creamy thick decadent mouthfeel, long lasting coffee bitterness finish. Perfectly balanced amazing beer!

Bottle from Systembolaget. Fruity, candylike smell with toasted sugar. Roasted and toasted taste with a burned aroma. Some coconut. Very boozy, could have used more sweetness.

on tap @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Aroma of malt and cardboard (in a primal old world sense). Opaque brown/black, deep tan head that drops to a cover, spots and dots of lace. Taste is sweet caramel malt that is the consistency of syrup. It purrs through a minimally fizzed swallow to a finish that shows strong alcohol at the very end. This feels like it belongs on the shelf with the liquores. Pretty strong.

Another really impressive super high ABV beer from Avery. The only thing that mellows the booziness is the super rich, syrupy dark chocolate and dark fruit character. Tried at the Omaha Extreme Beerfest in 2016 with Jess and the parents.

Sometimes the craft crowd gets a little too excited about high-ABV beers. Look, I like getting more booze as much as the next person, but too often ultra-huge beers sacrifice balance and flavor to get more alcohol. Somehow, Avery managed to make an extremely potent Imperial Stout that doesn’t suck. Pour is like ink/oil - whatever simile you like best. Aroma has roasted malt and tons of alcohol because how could it not? Flavor has espresso and bittersweet cocoa. Yes, it’s warm and full-bodied. Still, it’s unbelievably smooth for something 17%+.

Bottle/Fest. A- Espresso, coffee. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Espresso, dry, slightly bitter, cocoa, coffee. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, bold finish. O- Wowza! This beer was a big one and very tasty. Makes me really want to try the barrel aged one. Not much wrong with this brew.
