hayduke (1621), Eureka, California, USA May 3, 2009 My bottle was marked bottled in February 2008 so it was 15 months old. Did not hurt is bit it seems. It poured a hazy amber to orange with a off-white head and very thick lacing . Nose of flowers, with citrus and malts. Very creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Flavor contains ripe fruits, spices, and some citrus. Overall a complex yet highly drinkable beer. tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA May 3, 2009 22oz poured into tulip
Pours similar to St Bernardus but redder. Murkey and foamy, but appetizing none-the-less.
Smells of light yeast and apple.
Taste is of earthy spice and apple core. A little yeast, but not too heavy. I think people’s complaints on this beer are valid, but i think it does a good job of not following style too much. I actually find it to be a very refreshing heavier spicy belgian. weird mix, but still good.
It is a little americanized, a little bubbly, but i really enjoy it. danielcurtis81 (879), San Diego, California, USA May 2, 2009 Bottle. Batch 3. Nose was proofing yeast, biscuit dough, and banana. Pours a hazy strong golden color with a large creamy head. Flavors of sweet breas, heavy yeast, and hints of banana. Mouth was nicely carbonated, full, and warm in the belly. MrPickles (108), Wisconsin, USA May 1, 2009 Shared a bottle of batch #2 (I think) Poured a golden copper color. Aroma has a good mix of citrus and spices. Orange peel taste with a sweetness. Sweet and malt flavors are plentiful which result in a good blend of the flavors. Really decent pick up. madvike (301), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 1, 2009 Pours copper with a foamy head. Aroma is spice, yeast, and sweet malt. Nice that the spice isn’t so overpowering. Taste is the same -- muted spice with some wheat and finishing hops. Medium-bodied and a little syrupy, but a solid brew and one I could drink just about any time. unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Apr 26, 2009 Pours muddy brown, with a quickly diminishing head... not the best way to start this one out, given as I was pretty stoked to try this gimmick from two great breweries. Aroma is sticky sweet fruit. Flavor is spicy, nice and tangy on the tongue. A bit too carbonated for me. The hops aren’t at the forefront, but there is an earthiness that you can attribute to them in there somewhere.
FlssmrBrewAlum (1080), Lisle, Illinois, USA Apr 24, 2009 22 oz bottle courtesy of cgarvieuk. Cheers, mate! Pours a dark amber, with decent offwhite bubbly head that subsides to a film. Aromas are promising, dark fruits, carmel, some belgian yeasty spice, with some very present sweetness. Initial is fuller bodied, pushing some nice dark fruits, pitted, with apricot and plum with carmel malts, spicy yeast, and some nice raisins. A bit of a bitterness in the finish, with interesting sweetness. Good, just not my thing. Cheers. tmoreau (527), Lombard, Illinois, USA Apr 23, 2009 On tap at Lunar Brewing again this year, pint served. A hazy amber/orange pour with an off white head that diminished to a thin layer but left some solid, sheet-like lacing. The nose was some yeast aroma, malt, a little sweetness of apple and pear and caramel. The flavor added to these some spice as cinnamon, and some nice alcohol warmth. The body was medium to full, and the mouthfeel had a nice creaminess to it.
