Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Pours muddy brown, with a quickly diminishing head... not the best way to start this one out, given as I was pretty stoked to try this gimmick from two great breweries. Aroma is sticky sweet fruit. Flavor is spicy, nice and tangy on the tongue. A bit too carbonated for me. The hops aren’t at the forefront, but there is an earthiness that you can attribute to them in there somewhere.

22 oz bottle courtesy of cgarvieuk. Cheers, mate! Pours a dark amber, with decent offwhite bubbly head that subsides to a film. Aromas are promising, dark fruits, carmel, some belgian yeasty spice, with some very present sweetness. Initial is fuller bodied, pushing some nice dark fruits, pitted, with apricot and plum with carmel malts, spicy yeast, and some nice raisins. A bit of a bitterness in the finish, with interesting sweetness. Good, just not my thing. Cheers.

On tap at Lunar Brewing again this year, pint served. A hazy amber/orange pour with an off white head that diminished to a thin layer but left some solid, sheet-like lacing. The nose was some yeast aroma, malt, a little sweetness of apple and pear and caramel. The flavor added to these some spice as cinnamon, and some nice alcohol warmth. The body was medium to full, and the mouthfeel had a nice creaminess to it.

Reddish orange pour. Highly carbonated. Aroma of hops and spice. Taste is still spicy but is in no way harsh. Easy finish. Higher ABV is not felt. Nice mix of two different beers.

22oz. Batch 2. Pour is hazy copper with small white head. Aromas of candy, sweet fruit, and slight alcohol. Flavor is well balanced with caramel, sweet malts, candied fruit, and warming alcohol. Decent and enjoyable.

Batch #3. Wow, what a good brew! Pours a darker golden amber color with a white head. Aroma is banana, wheat, other fruits, and a touch of spice. Flavor is extremely complex, nice malty and yeasty flavor throughout.

Pours a yellow amber color. Quite fruity, banana, citrus, peach, and hints of dark fruit, with some spiciness. Quite marginal in my opinion.

Bomber. Pours dark orange/amber with a small head. Aroma is of dark fruit, spice, and alcohol. Flavor has same dark fruit component as aroma, along with same mixed chocolate and nutmeg. Finishes with warming alcohol. Overall, I found this beer to get too cloyingly sweet when it warmed. There is just not enough complexity to withstand the onslaught of sweet fruit.
