chronictonic (399), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA May 26, 2008 On tap - Capone’s - May 2008 - Medium strong belgian sugar, yeast and maybe a slight medicinal note aroma. Ruddy brown with hints of red in the glass. Somewhat candy-like in flavor, but with a definite american hop profile that helps cut the sugary flavors. However, I don’t think the hops used mix well with the belgian characteristics as good as they could. bobaidan (358), Farmington, Connecticut, USA May 23, 2008 Pours murky copper/peach with a small head. Aroma is a combination of Belgian yeast and spicy hops. Mouth feel is pretty thick with a small amount of carbonation. Flavor is sweet fruit with banana and citrus followed by hop and alcohol. An interesting and tasty beer. bigbish (137), Colorado, USA May 23, 2008 Pours a medium copper with a thin head that laces my glass. Aroma is clove and banana, as well is the taste. This beer dances all over my tounge, it’s hard for me to describe the taste other than saying, "yummmmmmmm."
Just the right body, lots of flavor, I love this stuff. rcasta (472), El Salvador May 23, 2008 En dba estaba buena suficiente como para pedirla otra vez olfato sabor y vista agradable ok aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA May 22, 2008 The color was hazy amber with light sediment. The head was creamy, white, and laced some. The aroma was citris, dark fruit, sweet, and yeast. The flavor was yeast, dark fruit, alcohol, and hops. The palate was lively. The finish was warm. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA May 22, 2008 Pours a soft murky peachy red. The head is a finger or two thick creamy and yellow. A little carbonation but mostly still. The nose is fruity, rich, a little earthy, . The flavor is warm, the 9% definitely shows, sweet, fruity, peaches, a little spicy, sharp. The palate is warm, very hot and spicy. Finishes hot. trevor211 (500), Seattle, Washington, USA May 20, 2008 Pours a medium copper with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma is wonderful. Mild floral hops, brown sugar and yeast - almost like a baked good. Flavor brings in mild notes all over the map - citrus fruits, floral hops, light malts and that brown sugar / yeast combination from the aroma. This is delicious - like one of the better efforts from Lost Abbey. It takes the flavor of Unibroue’s La Fin Du Monde and kicks it up a few notches on the complexity scale. I’m now very curious to try more from both Avery and Russian River... mcferc4 (55), New Jersey, USA May 20, 2008 Updated: Apr 15, 2009A great beer -- love the concept. Decent head, GREAT aroma of floral hops. Spicy, yeasty taste. Sweet, but not too dry. Very smooth finish. According to my friend Alex, "The rust color is an illusion, because this beer is solid gold." I think that fits. Nice to finally try something that’s somewhat from Russian River. Maybe someday I’ll get my hands on a brew that’s 100% RR.
Also sampled at Blind Tiger Very Special Keg Night 11/19/08: "Great. Yeasty, raisins, tart, thick, powerful."
