Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Pours a soft murky peachy red. The head is a finger or two thick creamy and yellow. A little carbonation but mostly still. The nose is fruity, rich, a little earthy, . The flavor is warm, the 9% definitely shows, sweet, fruity, peaches, a little spicy, sharp. The palate is warm, very hot and spicy. Finishes hot.

Pours a medium copper with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma is wonderful. Mild floral hops, brown sugar and yeast - almost like a baked good. Flavor brings in mild notes all over the map - citrus fruits, floral hops, light malts and that brown sugar / yeast combination from the aroma. This is delicious - like one of the better efforts from Lost Abbey. It takes the flavor of Unibroue’s La Fin Du Monde and kicks it up a few notches on the complexity scale. I’m now very curious to try more from both Avery and Russian River...

A great beer -- love the concept. Decent head, GREAT aroma of floral hops. Spicy, yeasty taste. Sweet, but not too dry. Very smooth finish. According to my friend Alex, "The rust color is an illusion, because this beer is solid gold." I think that fits. Nice to finally try something that’s somewhat from Russian River. Maybe someday I’ll get my hands on a brew that’s 100% RR. Also sampled at Blind Tiger Very Special Keg Night 11/19/08: "Great. Yeasty, raisins, tart, thick, powerful."

Bomber, batch #2, bottled Feb 2008. Hazy amber with a bubbly white head. Very yeasty, fruity nose, coriander and light dust. Sweet caramel and fruit flavors, lightly dry, mild coriander and yeast. Pleasant, soft but bouncy mouthfeel. Sweet tropical fruit finish, touches of white pepper. A damned pleasant brew.

Batch #2. Pours a very hazy medium caramel color with quickly fading off white head. Nose is primarily soft esters with a focus on clove and a more subdued banana aroma. Flavor has a peppery onset moving toward a fruit and clove midldle. Finish reveals some of the hop bitterness. Picking up notes of vanilla and woody tannins as it warms and more clove on the finish. Mouthfeel is very creamy and enjoyable. Very flavorful and well balanced.

Batch #2. Bottle, 22 oz. (drank every drop). Cloudy light amber with a diminishing off-white head. Excellent lacing. Aroma of hops, malt, caramel, biscuit. Earthy flavor with a dry finish. Nice complexity. A top notch Belgian-style ale. I’d buy a case of it if I had the storage space.

Draft @ Birreria Paradiso. Pours a hazy, orange-amber color; light tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Basic breadiness, dough, and brown sugar in the aroma; quite reserved. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of brown sugar, grapefruit (not sour, but grapefruit), breadiness and Belgian sugar; reasonably tasty, with an interesting citrus / grapefruit note and a touch of acidity. Lengthy finish: dough, breadiness, light spice, and a touch of residual sugar.
