Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Bottle, Batch #2- Interesting but ultimately underwhelming. Good but not what I was expecting from these great brewers. The complexity and depth of the malt body was good but not great. For the price, I would go a different direction.

Pours deep ruddy brown with a tan head that diminishes to decent lacing. Nose is dried fruit, sugar, malt and biscuit. The flavor is not quite so complex, but more candied and brown sugars with a touch of dried fruit. A bit creamy on the palate and dry in the finish. All in all, a good brew and a bit quad-like.

Batch #2. Hazy amber pour. Strong off-white head and moderate lacing. Aroma of bread and cloves. Fruity, malty taste, again with cloves. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Aftertaste reiterates the aroma and flavor, and spikes it with an alcohol flavor.

Draft at Stub & Herb’s. Pours a reddish-brown body with creamy, off-white head. Aroma of malts, sugar, and some fruit. Medium-bodied and well-balanced. Flavors of dark fruit - plum, raisin, along with some apple and malts. Finish is a bit dry and earthy with a slight alcohol burn.

Draft at Oldsmar Tap House. I didn’t take too many notes on this one. It was sweet and more alcoholic than its ABV would suggest. Not too much in the way of hoppiness. Pretty good, but not all that memorable.

Was not impressed. Nice backstory to the beer. Good to see breweries joining forces. Wish the beer was as good as the story. Cloudy brown body with a small beige head. Malt, brown sugar, alcohol, toffee in the nose. Same elements in the flavor with the addition of apple. Was not the sum of its parts.
