chicagodri (1020), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 19, 2008 Had it on tap at Handlebar in Chicago . Pours a dark brown with an off white head. Mild aroma with typical Belgian yeast smell, some dark fruit, and spices. Goes down smooth and is very drinkable, especially for a 9% brew. Very good. drjay44 (760), Salida, Colorado, USA Apr 17, 2008 All the spice variables you could want. Allspice, mace, cardomon, nutmeg, they are here for you to identify. What a magical thing is a bit of sugar and the proper yeast. ajm (903), Los Angeles, California, USA Apr 16, 2008 Updated: Jun 9, 2008Bottle at Lucky Baldwin’s. Last time, I noted "Pretty standard notes of lemon, yeast and candi sugar." The second time, I found a very likeable citric hoppiness, not unlike Dreadnaught. Very smooth, quite grapefruity (hint of blood orange), mild yeast for edge. Had the notable grungy flavor of a RR creation, which I appreciate. bierkoning (5992), La Tropica, Netherlands Apr 14, 2008 Bottled jan 07. Dark brown color. Malt, dark chocolate, plums and porto in the aroma. Full bodied, malty flavor with strong notes of porto, plums, pineapple, caramel and chocolate. Good mix of a strong abbey ale and a doppelbock, very well balanced. elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA Apr 13, 2008 Pours a cloudy copper color with a white head. Aroma is mostly belgian yeast. Tastes of sweet malt, sweet fruit, a slight funkiness, and spice. Finishes with a nice sweet warming feeling on the palate. pepsican (884), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Apr 12, 2008 Poured a hazy amber with a medium sized white head. Slightly funky aroma with clove and bubblegum in the background. Flavor of clove, bubblegum, molasses, caramel, wheat, dried fruit, citrus, and malt. Finishes slightly dry, no funk to be found. Very interesting and not at all what I expected. Nice, Taverner (827), San Ramon, California, USA Apr 10, 2008 A great Belgian blend! You get the currants and rasin notes from RR Salvation, and the dry finish of Avery Salvation. Pours a straight brown with biscuit head, and leaves some heady lacing on the glass. Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA Apr 10, 2008 22 oz. brown, bomber bottle. No freshness date seen. poured out a deep copper color, with a sticky tan head. Aromas are of Belgian yeast, sourdough bread, cloves, some bananas. Flavors are more of a weizenbock than anything else. Cloves, yeast & esters galore.
Medium mouthfeel, OK body. Nothing to write home about though.
