Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Clear copper with a medium head. Good lacing. Smells of belgian yeast (bananas, cloves), nutty, caramel and dark fruits. Taste brings out the yeast and prunes, as well as alcohol. Medium-heavy body. A bit syrupy. Alcohol was well hidden. Overall it was just nothing special.

Batch #2. Feb 2008. Pours dark copper with off white head. Nice lacing. Aromas of Belgian yeast, candy sugar, some spices (clove?). Flavor is mildly sweet and malty. Finishes slightly bitter. Medium body with lively carbonation. OK for an American Belgian style ale. I was expecting more from these two brewers. I wouldn’t buy this again.

Belgians aren’t my thing. This one is good as far as they go. The story behind this beer adds to the enjoyment of it.

Draft @ BSP. Pours a hazy darker brown with one finger thick tannish head. Not a whole lot going on in the nose, some fuller red berries, lots of fresh belgian yeast, a slight toffee like malt sweetness. Decent body on the tongue, not a whole lof flavors standing out; some tobacco mustiness, a little dark candi sugar, more of a yeasty plasticine quality, finishing drier with muted earthy hops. Seemed a bit like an overcharged ale version of a doppelbock. A little underwhelming, undfortunately.

22 oz bottle. Poured med-dark amber with small head. I found a fruity nose with a some nice carbonation. Some nice belgian hop flavor to this one, but like many american belgians it seems to lack the depth of flavor that distinguishes strong belgian beers.Nice smooth finish to it. Glad I got to try it.

Draught > Flying Saucer. Was kind of surprised to see this one on draught but glad I got to try it. Pretty solid American Belgian but nothing much to remember about this one. So forgettable that I’m having trouble describing it. Oh well....

Very malty at first taste, thicker beer. Medium carbonation. Dark amber, small head. Medium lacing. Undertones of dark fruits. U think its pretty cool that avery and russian river, expected a little more though.

Deep and cloudy amber in color with just some light lacing. Aromas were of yeast, sweet malt, banana, flowers and spice. There is plenty of carbonation in the front of the mouth and fades to leave dryness on the finish. The palate has solid weight and shows off the flavors from the nose. Very enjoyable but nothing that stands out...good or bad.
