BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA Jan 31, 2008 I thought this was a decent beer, not really anything super special, a lot more hype than anything else. Having tried both beers separately, before trying them blended together. There is a very yeasty nose, with hints of coriander, and black tea. A very enjoyable malt background, with some overwhelming spiciness, slightly eschewed by the candy sugar sweetness. Slightly more reminiscent of the Avery model than the Russian River in my opinion. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Jan 30, 2008 Pours a deep brown color, somewhat translucent with reddish highlights. Somewhat thick, frothy, white head that leaves a good bit of lace on the glass.
Smells like tea. Spicy, sweet, and sugary. Tastes spicy as well. Malty, sweet, with a spicy twinge on the finish,
Good body, nice carbonation. Good brew. One of the better Belgian styles that I’ve tried. Jayb0 (750), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA Jan 28, 2008 Excellent beer that balances the heavy hitting dark fruit and alcohol with a light sourness streak that keeps it refreshing. tympanic (50), Alabama, USA Jan 27, 2008 An interesting, complex, tasty brew. Pours deep red with a medium-bodied off-white head. The taste and aroma yield maple syrup, raisin, plum, and a faint note of vanilla. The collaborative spirit of this beer makes for good marketing and great times. Capa (955), Yokosuka, Japan Jan 25, 2008 I loved the idea of this beer from the moment I heard about it. Finding a bottle of this in Japan was made a good day a better one. Crisp red color with a medium off-white head. Sweet malts, tropical fruits, floral, and citrus. Light bodied with plenty of carbonation. Spices, yeast, sweet malts, dark fruits, and light alcohol in the back. Finish has pleasant warmth with lingering spice. I found that the aroma and flavor don’t quite match up, but both are still real good. Really enjoyed this beer in both its idea and follow-thru. ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Jan 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy dark amber color woth a beige colored head. Aroma is yeast, citrus, dried fruits, hint of malt. FLavor is dark fruit, yeasty, citrus, caramel, some floral hops. Palate is medium, medium carbonation, finishes on the sweet side. Me likey. GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA Jan 16, 2008 Sure, I think Vinnie is one of the best brewers going today. But his collaboration with Adam was average at best. Nothing complex. No wow factor. I mean it looked nice, with it’s dark amber color, medium off-white head with nice lacing left behind. Aroma was dried fruit, yeast, a touch herbal and citrusy. A taste of yeast, dried orange peel, some dark fruit maybe, and some alcohol. A year in the bottle didn’t really mellow anything out yet. Decent beer but not what you’d expect from Vinnie at least. I haven’t had much to try from Adam. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jan 4, 2008 Brown sugar, alcohol, icing sugar notes to the nose. Brown copper coloured body is topped by a shy off white head that recedes to ring. Dubbel-like aroma is misleading as flavour is very dry with fairly apparent hop character. Medium full body with moderate carbonation. Seems to relate more to the Avery stable of beers than Russian River... Bottle sampled with Beershine and Oakes.
