Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Sure, I think Vinnie is one of the best brewers going today. But his collaboration with Adam was average at best. Nothing complex. No wow factor. I mean it looked nice, with it’s dark amber color, medium off-white head with nice lacing left behind. Aroma was dried fruit, yeast, a touch herbal and citrusy. A taste of yeast, dried orange peel, some dark fruit maybe, and some alcohol. A year in the bottle didn’t really mellow anything out yet. Decent beer but not what you’d expect from Vinnie at least. I haven’t had much to try from Adam.

Brown sugar, alcohol, icing sugar notes to the nose. Brown copper coloured body is topped by a shy off white head that recedes to ring. Dubbel-like aroma is misleading as flavour is very dry with fairly apparent hop character. Medium full body with moderate carbonation. Seems to relate more to the Avery stable of beers than Russian River... Bottle sampled with Beershine and Oakes.

22 oz. glass bottle- color of reddish brown, with a thick tan head - nose of prunes, brown sugar, dates, and slight alcohol – taste of tannins, brown sugar, molasses, earth, alcohol, and port - body is medium, and with low carbonation – aftertaste of molasses, vegetation, and port

One of joebrew’s favorite beers that is repeated at a few past Cellar’s weekly beer tasting in St Paul, MN. Pours a semi-hazy dark amber brew with a thin light tan head that slowly dissipates to a fine film and light tan ring. Aroma of dark roasted caramel malt, some light Belgian yeast, dark pitted fruit and a touch of vanilla. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of caramel malt, dark fruit, some flowery hops and a touch of vanilla. Finish has a dry bitterness and a slight spiciness aftertaste with flavors of yeast and caramel malt.

Bottle. [thanks to my mate, Øster, for bringing this from the States]
Pours a muddy dark mahogany red with lots of particles in the liquid. On top there sits a small creamy off white head. Aroma is powerful with lots of dark, dried fruits. Lots of plums, raisins, some oak and dark caramel. Thick and creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is initially a little underwhelming with a thinnish feel to the fruitiness. There is a light bitterness with a roasted feel at the end. This is good, but nowhere any higher standards in the style.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Slightly hazy, amber golden with tiny impurities and a creamy, beige head. Lightly fruity, vanilla-like aroma. Medium body, sweetish caramel and a little overripe fruit. Dry, lightly bitter finish. Soft and pleasant drink. 191207

Bottle. Light brown colour with a little head.. Complex aroma with notes of malt, caramel and sourness. Sweet flavour with notes of malt, caramel, fruit and ends up with a warm feeling from the alcohol.
