Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

22 ounce bottle purchased at Monument Wine and Liquors. Aroma is yeasty, estery, banana like with plenty of burnt notes present. Caramel malts also make an appearance with an omnipresent ethanolic aroma. Virtually transparent amber body with a small-medium light tan head, Mild lacing. Mildly tart, lightly astringent start, which becomes roasted, caramelly, burnt, and heavily malty. Chewy, lightly hopped. Light ethanol late. Kind of tastes a little like a quad. The roasty, diacetyl, maltiness is a bit cloying as time goes on.

Bottle from Total Wine. Pours dark caramel-amber with 2 cm. of tan head. Subtle yeast, sour apple, and musty oak in the nose. Tastes include more wood, caramel, slight sour yeast, and crisp red apple in the finish. Subtle astringentness in the finish as well. Astringentness? Anyway, soft/medium carbonation and full-bodied with a rounded palate. Refreshing.

The two salvations named ales to mix well-- impressive complexity and balance. Not acidic or cloying like too many Beligans. Top notch.

Slightly hazed reddish with a healthy greyish white head, thinning to a film quickly. I see flavor in this beer. I certainly smell flavor too. Give chewy sweet Juicy Fruit. A bit of alcohol. A bit of brown sugar and cinnamon. A bit of alcohol. Really pretty clean other than the slightest of touches (it could be my imagination) of DMS. A bit thin in the body for such a big beer, but a bit creamy, not bad. A light clean sweet beer, only burdened by an out of place bit of roast. Again, big juicy fruit character, some alcohol, cinnamon and brown sugar sweetness. This could use a duller sweetness or firmer sort of body. A bit creamy, with a Belgian candy sort of finish for sure. There’s some alcohol that comes on strong in the slightly spicy finish. I could drink this regularly, not bad at all. Rerate: Wow, the rerate really takes this down a few pegs!Seemed to think it was way too sweet and lacking the complexity I thought it had before. Some toast. Knocked down the aroma 2 and the nose 1, while the over all was 2 lower. Only palate went up. Thus knocking off 1 on overall and 1 on aroma.

Bottle, at the Raleigh Times bar. Amber colored, nice tan head with lacing, and cloudy body. Yeasty aroma, caramel and earthy odors. Flavor is rich--caramel and fruit, yeast, nut. Very delicious!
