bbp182 (255), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 10, 2007 Wow!!!! What an amazing smooth Belgian Strong Ale. Smells like heaven. A nice amber color. The taste is just amazing, and smooth. Oh tap at my friend bryans uncles house. Great choice Paul! aobecksy (661), Middle of no where, Ohio, USA Jul 9, 2007 A real indictment on taste! As coconspirators: Russian River Brewing and Avery Brewing forge and utter a great taste. Finding it to be delightfully thick and sweet like candied cherries, I hold it to be a fine drink. It pleads for a opinion of greatness with its sweet finish. The Verdict: very appealable...Thanks Atty Aged Oak AgedOak (74), Ohio, USA Jul 9, 2007 Pours a rich brown with a slight off white head that surprisingly lasted. The taste of this brew is excellent with burnt carmel malt, cherry and spices coming through immediately. This is very well balanced with a very nice texture in the mouth. This ale is very APPEALING ( another legal term). Thaichile (599), 10aFly, New Jersey, USA Jul 9, 2007 Bottle. Pours a brownish hue with a thin sliver of a head. Nose is somewhat roasty with dried fruit. Flavor is tons of malt with some very pleasent hops lying just below the surface but definately discernable. Very creamy mouthfeel. This was a yummy, malty brew. Well balanced with the roasted malts leading the way. Thanks to ogglethorp for this bottle. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Jul 9, 2007 Murky garnet hue, dark cherry, enormous bone white head, lace leaving...nice lookin’...
Lovely aroma, beautiful Belgian yeast, lightly fruity, berries and cherries and grapes, ...nice, again...mellow, clean, and cool.
Taste: gorgeous. Even-tempered, high on the fruit, not too sweet, not too hoppy, not too malty, just right. Full-bodied, and ...well-balanced, and...excellently executed, and...nicely done. The juicy fruit seeps out the corners of the mouth, vey vibrant, bouncy malt, middling hops, ...delicious.
Quite a nice brew, absolutely gorgeous, containing so many excellent attributes of better Belgian-style brews...lovely, lovely...yummy, yummy... Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Jul 7, 2007 What an interesting idea this was and it worked out quite well. A murky brown appearance. Some dark fruit, cherries, and caramel in the aroma. The flavor consists of toffee, chocolate, caramel, and nutmeg. A rather sweet finish on this one. Overall this was a very nice beer. stubby (325), Santee, California, USA Jul 7, 2007 I like it but I wish American brewers could attenuate more or leave out a few dextrines. Surely that is my tastes talking, not to bag on a well made product. Thick and sweet, with some heat from alcohol. I bet this would age and be better in a year. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Jul 4, 2007 From a 22 oz. bomber bottle, bottling date of Jan. 2007, glass symbols in the lower left of label, a blurb along the right side, sampled just above cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
Poured a opaque, cloudy ripping fig brown with tight foamy creamy beige head, good retention, small amount of laced sticking. An impressive looking start.
An appetizing aroma, clove, nutmeg, earthy spices, a mix of peaches, apricots, dates and a very light tropical fruitiness, estery alcohol as well, a backing of caramel maltiness.
Good carbonation provides for a airy, creamy medium body, the tastes are blending together well, better than when I first tried this last January when the RR Salvation was highly dominant, now I can taste the better elements of both, a tasty clove, nutty, earthy spiciness, nutmeg with a cross section of caramelized brown and candied sugars, date, fig and apricot fruitiness that meshes with alcohol, a fruity warmth in the palate, lightly toasted caramel malts and grains, and a dry sweet malty finish.
This is aging quite nicely, I’m glad I have more bottles to try six months to three years from now. When this first came out last January I tried a couple of bottles and thought it didn’t have a good balance, but now both ales are blending together, more equally, quite tasty, a smooth, easy sipper.
