hopslovin (180), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jul 4, 2007 Dark amber pour with off-white head. Smells of yeast and fruit. Nice balance, fruit flavors. Crisp mouthfeel. Warming sweet finish. jcr (1137), Jasper, Indiana, USA Jul 3, 2007 Bottle. Clear amber pour with short, off-white frothy head. Aroma is malty (caramel, bread, grain), spicy (clove, banana), hoppy (flowers). The flavor is moderately sweet, leaning toward heavily sweet (sweet cherries), and also moderately bitter. Alcohol is apparent. Lively carbonation and a medium body. Watery texture, but the finish seems to thicken up, resulting in a slightly sticky mouthfeel. This got old fast, especially because of its sweetness. anders37 (4516), Malmö, Sweden Jul 3, 2007 Bottle, courtesy of Jörgen @ Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Pours a hazy amber color with an off-white head. Sweet malty yeasty spicy aroma with some hints of citrus. Malty and slightly yeasty spicy flavor with some fruity sourish hints. Sweet malty warming yeasty finish with some bitterness in the aftertaste. mkobes (2103), paramus, New Jersey, USA Jul 3, 2007 On tap at HDG. Deep rich brown in color with a creamy off white head. Dark fruity aroma with brown sugar notes. Hoppy and malty flavor. Banana and clove notes. Medium bodied. Sweet tasting. Finish is dry. Decent beer. haggis03a3 (132), Piedmont, California, USA Jul 3, 2007 Bottle. Rich brown color with a creamy/frothy off white head. The aroma is of raisins, banana, sweetness, spiciness, meat, and a bit of alcohol. The flavor is fruity, with some nice earthy hop bitterness to balance out the sweet malt. The mouth feel is a bit too carbonated I think, but it is still smooth. It has a medium bod with a dry metallic finish. Though I found some flaws, I think it somehow comes together to make a very good ale. I appreciated the bitterness to balance the sweetness. Some of this style are too sweet and medicinal in my opinion. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jul 2, 2007 22 oz bottle. Poured a cloudy orange-brown color. Head was thick, creamy and light tan with good retention and lacing. Smelled of clove and brown sugar. Very spicy, dry, and effervescent with lots of tiny bubbles on the tongue. Medium bodied. Tasted of clove and spiced white wine. There were also earthy flavors of wet stone and maybe some oak. Pretty good, but not as great as I had anticipated. roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 30, 2007 Got this at Coit Liquors in the Little Italy section of San Fransisco. I had wandered in there after lunch with my fiance and started talking to the young guy behind the counter about the different beers they have (selection basically a few shelves of belgians or lesser knowns). After about 15 minutes he went in the back and brought this out for me saying they only had 1 case of it and were setting it aside for regulars. What a guy!
Poured a medium brown amber color with a puffy white head. Aroma is yeasty banana dought and coriander. Drinking it is very light on the palate (surprisingly) and flavor is a warming alcohol prescence with a kinda different odd banana yeast flavor. Overall, enjoyable. PSmith (35), Kennewick, Washington, USA Jun 28, 2007 Updated: Dec 15, 2008A dark color, nice white head. First taste was not sure if I liked it, but "grew" on me. I believe it has a nice slight spice flavor as it warmed up.
