SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA May 31, 2007 Bottle January 2007: I really wish I had a bottle of both Avery and RR Salvation to try along with this. But alas. Pours a really deep amber with a thick head. A blanket of ether seems to lay on top of the body, as it’s present every time I take a whiff. Below the alcohol are pleasant fruity esthers, mostly banana, apple and peach. A deeper breath brings out the rich malt - cherry wood, pipe tobacco and malty bread. The body is thick and creamy - quite appropriate. The body is quite sweet - not underattenuated though. It seems the sugars are from candy sugar (turbinado?) - which ultimately takes away from the delicate yeast strains. The yeast gets lost in the heavy malt and sweetness. An interesting beer, but not something I would search out again. sinkas (182), Perth/Fremantle, Australia May 28, 2007 Sampled at hombrewers meeting.
My first insight into US Belgian style beers. My sample was small and near the end of the bottle, I didnt feel as though this tasted belgian in any obvious way, quite dry with some fairly light malt and hop flavours. michael-pollack (2606), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA May 28, 2007 22oz. Bottle: Moderately sweet aroma is malty and earthy. Smells of yeast, spices, and some caramel. Poured copper in color with a hint of orange; small tan head lasted throughout. Great lacing. Hazy. Very sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet but not bitter or sour. Tastes of sweet malts, tea, and sugar. Medium to full body. Thick texture. Lively carbonation. Long, malty finish. beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA May 27, 2007 22 oz Bomber-clear copper color w/a moderate off white head & strong lacing which lasted thru the brew. Strong roasted malt aroma. Malty flavor of roasted nuts w/some dark fruit in the background. Had a touch of spice/nutmeg as well. Was a little cold when I pulled it out of the frig so I wasn’t that crazy @ the first sip, but it really perked up as it warmed. Found this to be quite enjoyable. Long dry malt finish. jeffc666 (1886), Fairfax, Virginia, USA May 26, 2007 Mostly clear copper body topped by a medium tan head. Good assertive malt bite int eh aroma with some hints of interesting yeasty bits, though it is a tad boring. The flavor is much the same. It is very drinkable in its own way. ChazMania (408), Pasadena, California, USA May 25, 2007 Bomber, bottled Jan 2007. I have been chilling this for a few months, waiting for a good moment to savor. It pours lighter than I expected. The head is a good one finger and lingers with lacing. The aroma is faint, not very strong at all. The first flavor for me was faint banana. Some slight spice and fig flavor but it’s not very pronounced. Although it is a good beer, i would not call it exceptional or unique to my palate. TheEpeeist (1430), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA May 25, 2007 5/22/07. Cloudy brown with a thin off-white head. Yeast, carrot cake, and a touch of banana rise up. Abrasive carb; buttery with a tripel bite. Sour orange toffee melts into pink grapefruit. Dry, pasty finish with green olives. Not bad but too much going on. Gets kinda heavy. ukoolaid (572), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA May 25, 2007 Bottle (I’ve also had it on tap @ Moan & Dove, but I did not rate it at the time). Pours a light amber with foamy tan head. Aroma is a bit malty with yeast and hints of dark fruit. Taste is fairly sweet with caramel, barnyard yeast, dark fruit, and a bit of hop. It’s pretty good. I haven’t had the RR Salvation, but I think I like the Avery Salvation better than this beer.
