xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA May 24, 2007 22oz bottled jan 2007. I love the idea of this beer but I don’t know if it quite fleshes out. A murky red-brown color with long lasting large white head and some lacing. Has several belgium abbey ale qualities in the nose. Like when you are walking in a pine forest and you kick up the layer of fermenting mulch... you know that smell. A sweat yeasty character, of innocent youth. Flavor starts piney, acidic, bitter, toffee and finishes sweet-alc. Body is pretty thin, not bud light thin, it sits in your mouth and has weight but it doesn’t have that fullness that it really needs. Not my favorite from avery, but not bad either. badlizard (2324), Berkeley, California, USA May 24, 2007 650 mL bottle also sampled on tap at Stone. Red amber color with fluffy white head. Aroma of yeast, grapes, and alcohol. Bright, lively, and some what sticky palate. Taste initially of dark fruit transitioning to a sweet caramel-like character and finishing clean and slightly bitter. Decent overall. joe1510 (501), Illinois, USA May 24, 2007 22oz. Bomber

Binny’s Orland
Tried this in comparison to Avery’s Salvation which I sampled earlier. Collaboration poured into a chalice a lightly hazed murky amber that glows when held to the light. Good amount of carbonation bubbles rise into the creamy, khaki 1+ finger head. Settles to a thick cap that leaves behind walls of lacing with each sip.
I’m finding the smell lacking. Very faint. Fruity esters along with the slight metallic twang. Some clove shows itself. I seem to pick up some banana but mild blackberry is there as well.
The flavor is much different than I expected, I can’t notice much of Avery’s Salvation in here. Starts with a solid dose of grainy maltiness with a showing of caramel. There’s a metallic twang mid-palate that’s quickly followed by dark fruits that are reminiscent of blackberries and fig. There’s a powdery yeastiness and a bigger than expected hop spiciness that compliments things nicely. The flavor gets much better as it warms but still lacking.
The mouthfeel is nice. Medium bodied with lively carbonation pushes things through and leaves with the tastebuds awakened.
This is a good beer but one glass is more than enough. It just kept going on and on.
I can’t detect very much of Avery’s Salvation in here. The carbonation is similiar but everything else is very different. This is a fun and enjoyable beer though and a great idea. Hopefully we can see more brewers coming together like this in the future. I just need to get my hands on Russian River’s Salvation now to complete the trilogy.
2/26/07 Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA May 24, 2007 Brown in color with a cream colored head...malty aroma, nice blend of hops...rich and inviting...very mild hop bite, and a stickiness to the lips...nice lacing and medium bodied...alcohol percent very well disguised...easy to drink with a nice complexity DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA May 22, 2007 22 oz. bomber courtesy of DoBoy-Thanks Ed. Deep coppery brown clear body under a medium off white delicate head that subsides to a thin veil of fine bubbles. Fruity and spicy, the aroma leans heavily toward sweet malty flavors with a follow up by somepiney hop notes. Rich and smooth mouthfeel supported by a medium body and fine light effervescence. Satisfying caramel sweetness continues on inot the finish, with a touch of spicy bitterness coming in quite late. Very nice in all respects. AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA May 22, 2007 22oz - Killer lacing, creamy head, red/brown liquid, light carbonation. Sweetness fading to malt and heady alcohol finish with a pinch of hops hiding in there. Miguel (1181), Saint-Ours, Quebec, Canada May 21, 2007 Robe ambrée voilée surmontée d’une mince mousse blanche. Arômes de levures et d’épices. Saveurs d’oranges, de levures, de cerises et d’épices. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA May 21, 2007 A huge beer. Mahogany pour with a thick off-white head. Dense aroma of yeast, malt, bubblegum, spice, and a good kind of funkiness. Viscous, oily mouthfeel. More bubblegum and malt in the flavor, with some molassess, spice, and eartiness. A little alcohol at the end. This one is really good.
