Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

’07 Bottle. Pour is a clear reddish tinted amber with a large fluffy light tan lasting head. Nose is spicy and a bit funky – pretty nice. Medium bodied palate with lively carbonation. Flavor is malty sweetness, some spiciness, a small amount of earthy funk and a touch of floral hoppiness. I don’t get as much alcohol presence as some others have mentioned.

22. Bottled 1/07 (4 mo.). Pours a big deep ebony brown with ruby highlights and a fair amount of haze. Thick sudsy white head. Plenty of sticky lace. Not much going on on the nose--a very figurative whisper of funk, prunish maybe, some caramel, not much else. Medium body, medium carb, medium flavor. Some caramel tang, a little coriander, wet brown bread. Not much going on here. Zzzzzzz.

Purchase from Party Town, Florence,KY. Aroma is vineous, and a hint of the hops. Flavor is candy sweetness, alcohol, light hop, medium malt. It all blends together so well, stopping just before that sweetness goes off the deep end ruining the whole damn thing. A good brew, and a job well done for the folks at Avery!

This Belgian Strong Ale pours a dark copper color from a 22oz bottle. Medium to large sized white foamy head. Aroma is caramel, cherries, a touch of yeast, a touch of alcohol and some sweetness. A medium to full bodied BSA. Malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. Hops are earthy and floral. Interesting combinations of yeast, malts and alcohol. You can almost taste the Avery Salvation and the Russian River Salvation mixing and matching here. It has that yeast and fruit of Russian River and the alcohol and maltyness of Avery. It is an interesting blend; the sweetness tends to help hide the young hot alcohol. This one will probably age very well. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Bottle courtesy of Demcorhip: Poured a cloudy deep copper color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention. Aroma of sweet malt and medium funky yeast is pretty interesting. Taste of sweet malt is mix with some subtle sour notes and some light funky yeast. Body is quite full with some adequate carbonation and no alcohol was discernable. Overall, this seems like a good concept but I still think I would prefer having my own bottle of RR salvation instead of this.

Bright umber color with a a touch of copper. Full two fingers of creamy foam. Full range of aromas, with attic yeast; lots of fruit with cherries, oranges, limes, raisins and bananas; caramel, and fairly hearty hops scents which include sweet basil, rosemary and some dried wild flowers. Light sweet start, with plums and stewed raisins. Light alcohol presence. A mild acidity that does not seem to match a flavor. Dry somewhat grainy finish. with alcohol now quite prevalent. Some dry wood and weeds also in the finish. For me, this one seems to lose some qualities as it warms, which is not usually a good sign. Interesting effort, just seems to miss.

Bottle @ Ubertavern: Pours a dark mahogany, nice tan head and lots of lacing. Nose is dominant of the russian river salvation and caramel malt notes. The flavor is tart with subtle Avery Salvation notes. Hmmm. Finishes a medium clean note but dominant RRS forward as nice. Beautiful.
