Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Bottle from my trip to Whitefish. Pours dark toffee/amber with a thin white head and spotty lacing. Nose is very malty, little ester for a Belgian Strong Ale, pancakes and caramel, maple, toffee, nuts, malty as anything. Hops are present and well-integrated, shows a very floral note that I’m calling lilies. Flavors of candied malt, perfume/rosewater, biscuit, soft red fruit, gets fruitier as it warms, hoppier too. Seems to be more English/German influenced than Belgian. Very odd but very nice.

Pours a golden yellow with brown highlights. Small white head with little lacing. Aroma smells like breakfast. Pancakes, and pancake syrup, biscuits, oranges and spice. Not overly Belgian on the nose, in fact there was hardly any esters at all. This tastes like an ESBelgian. Marris Otter??? Biscuit, dandelion, pancake syrup, spice hops and caramel. Carbonation is nice. Weird mesh of styles. But nice beer.

Orange-amber pour with a lot of sediment and good head with great retention—lots of lacing. Smell is banana, malts, and some hops. Taste is malty and salty with a little hop kick and some alcohol. Sour apple and some other fruits are evident—finish is a little weak, but has some good bitterness. The more I drink it the more I like it.

Bottle. Dark brown pour, tons of carbonation and sediment (despite a careful pour). Aroma of malts, sour apple and hops. Flavor was plenty of malts, plum, brown sugar, pepper and cinnamon? Very good beer, but not worth $9/bottle asking price (in my opinion).

Bottle from Total Wine (Tampa, FL). Pours a very slightly hazy dark amber brown with one finger off-white head that settles quickly. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of ripe dark fruit, caramel, light spice, brown sugar, light cooked veggies, and hints of grass, wheat and yeast. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of caramel, ripe dark fruit, toffee, wheat, yeast, and hints of chocolate and molasses. Generally medium body with a malty finish. A respectable ale, but not a frequent drinker for me.

Bottle. Copper coloured with a small beige head. Aromas of sour fruit, malt, caramel and spice. Flavour of sugar, malt, butterscotch, mild hops and nothing.. Well i don’t like it. I can’t figure out whether it’s infected or not..
