Retorp (2154), Tampa, Florida, USA May 8, 2007 Aroma is lightly tart with slightly underripe fruit notes, sweet malt and a hint of the sugars. The body is a murky orange/brown and holds a diminishing tan head. Crisp tongue biting fored is followed by tart fruits, fruit rinds and a bit of sweetness which quickly goes dry. The finish is sort of fruit rind/herbal bitter rather than classic hop tasting bitter. Fairly hot with alcohol at the end. Decent, but honestly not something I’d go for again unless it was a few years old so I could see how it changed. Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA May 8, 2007 What a cool concept. Pours a clear amber color, almost no off white head. Funky just a little sweet. Not bad, just not blown away. MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA May 7, 2007 22oz bottle: poured ruby/amber with a medium sized off white head. Yeasty aroma with notes of caramel and a little fruit. Flavor is somewhat dry at first then a slight lingering sweetness. A bit of an alcohol bite in the finish. Unmistakably Belgian. A nice effort. ElJefe (553), Rochester, New York, USA May 6, 2007 Chesnut brown with an off white head that settles to a thin covering. Fruity aroma of peaches and figs, along with some caramel and a definite alcohol presence. Fruit returns in the flavor, peaches, bananas, and pears, along with a mild spiciness, and some mustiness in the finish. bluevegie (2169), Perth, Australia May 6, 2007 Sampled at Kooks Big Brew Day. Amber body with an off-white head. Pleasant sweet fruity taste that is a touch thin and not a long finish. Was expecting a bit more. garmonbozia (225), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA May 5, 2007 Bottle: nice amber color with a nice white head. It has the smell of dried fruit, musky smell. Taste is sweet and low carbination with a sour aftertaste. It seems to be very thin to the mouth feel but also very low carbinated too. I do like this beer, but I haven’t had many belgiun styrong ales to realy compare to. But what the hell, I like it 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA May 5, 2007 Bottle: Deep caramel, somewhat dirty, large frothy light beige head, spotty lacing.   Musty aroma, soft pale and dark pitted
fruit combo, also seems bready.   Somewhat bright breadiness up front, tangy, its got some zip.   Very slight alcohol is noticeable.
Seems like a Belgian crossed with a Bock.   Musty, but very bready, very little fruity character.   Moderate to full body and
mouthfeel.   A little spritzy, somewhat airy on the tongue.   Lingering sweet breadiness.   Tiz okay, but I think the two brews
would likely be better each on their own.
patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA May 5, 2007 sampled at the Hampton tasting - Pours dark amber with a foamy head. Yeast, malt, and some darker fruits comprise the aroma. The flavor is sweet and fruity with that 9% abv pretty much buried. Medium bodied and lively, this is an enjoyable effort from Avery and Russian River.
