COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2007 pours pretty dark for what i was expecting. opaque, small mustard head. some farmhouse scent, but not overpowering. some sweet belgian malt, but mostly the farmhouse. whoa. alright, if the aroma was all RR, the taste is hugely avery. lots of malt. very syrupy. pretty carbonated, reminiscient of the RR. a bit of chalk on the middle of the tongue into the finish. it’s probably the sourness actually, but there’s a bit of imbalance. i think it’s novel though. hmm, i like it but the finish is a little unappealing. i’ll take that point off the palate. pretty interesting, i’d definitely buy it again at $5.50...... 15 ounces later, i’m having a hard time finishing this.

First off, I really like both these breweries, but I was skeptical after first hearing about this beer and for very good reason. Blending two Belgian style beers both called Salvation just seemed a little too convenient to me. It pours light brown, much more similar to the color of RR Salvation. The nose is rather dull, revealing light notions of spice, bubble gum and fruit. On the palate, up front, there is not a lot there. Some muddled fruits toward the mid-palate with some black licorice hints on the extremely short finish. This is not very good.

redlight (2265) - Winter Park, Florida, USA - FEB 9, 2007
22 oz bottle @ redlight redlight. The aroma is only making more excited to try this beer. Bananas, brown sugar and molasses, yeasty, great. Pours a cloudy amber. Oh man, so much going on, slightly burnt flavor upfront that moves into sweet caramel and brown sugar, a hint of citrus. Plus its got this caramalized banana, banana’s foster going all through it. In the end there’s a hint of spice and a little alcohol. But its dangerously drinkable for about 9%. Plus this is the closest thing to Russian River we’ll see in Fl for awhile!

22oz bottle: Clear, medium copper color, with smallish light tan head. Aroma is malty, nutty, fair amount of caramel, hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. Flavor is malty, bit of kilned malts, hint of caramel and cherry. Finish is relatively sweet. Good, but not particularly special.

Unbelievably smooth to a very dangerous degree. The alcohol is not felt until later. Very good job on this one.

scraff (2120) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - FEB 9, 2007
Dark and hazy coppery brown, thick creamy light tan head. A soft rich and complex nose steps forth with notes of plum, fig, and peppery hops. Underlying tone hints at wood, banana, and brett. Flavor has plenty of dark fruity notes, touches of banana again, and final kick of spicy hops in the end. Nicely balanced throughout. Full bodied, medium carbonation and smooth, light bittersweet finish. Very well done. Cheers to Collaborations....

This is a fun beer, I love the history of this one. Somehow, Belgians just have that magical touch. The beer is great, and I will always pickup a bottle when I can, but, when it is in this class,(style). I can’t give it as good of a rating as it deserves when compared to the real Belgians. Only a very few breweries in America can brew a beer that come close to the real thing. Avery is one of these.

Pailhead (3435) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - FEB 6, 2007
Bottle: The aroma has lots of dark fruits along with moderate banana, candy sugar, and some very faint floweriness. Pours a transparent brownish-orange with a small off-white head that lasts a minute or so. The flavor starts with lots of dark fruits along with some light raisin, banana, and plum. The finish is a strong mixture of peppery spiciness, flowery bitterness, and a touch of orange peel. At times it reminds me of a hoppier version of a dunkelweizen. Very interesting.

22oz bottle from Capone’s (Norristown, PA). Sampled this during the Super Bowl last night. Poured hazy brown. I felt the aroma was a bit subtle, but i picked up sweet notes; raisins or candii sugar. Hops were present up front, to a much greater extent than I expected. Earthy, peaty finish. Interesting experiment.
