4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Batch 2, February 2008. Served in a chimay goblet. A -Deep copper red/brown. Head dissipated almost instantly. Nice lacing though. S -Belgian yeast and dark caramelized fruits. Reminds me of a barleywine with a belgian twist. T -Belgian yeast and loafy bread, dark candied plums, brown sugar, and some molasses. Really opens up as it warms up. Medium mouthfeel and the alcohol is really well hidden. Long aftertaste. O -This was very good. I happened upon this by chance actually, was just walking towards the register and saw the avery silver foil from the bottom shelf of a rack. I was pretty stoked when I grabbed it and read the label and the batch #. Age did some good things to this beer, and this might be the best Belgian from an American brewery that Iíve tried. Collaboration sucess!

Bottle Batch 2. Aroma of fig, honey, and lavender. Smooth and creamy, a little syrupy, but clean honey finish. Its a great complex beer with a unique taste, but for some reason I feel a little underwhelmed. Great experiment beer for the purpose of trying something different.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap served in a tulip glass
A - Pours a murky amber orange color with a fleeting off white cap. Mild lacing
S - Roasted toffee/caramel, yeasty, cloves, dates, golden raisins, orange tea, smells pretty sweet.
T - Sweet toffee malts, caramelized brown sugar, cloves, nutmeg, sugary dates, raisins, red delicious apples. Has a strong orange tea flavor that really stands out. Stone fruit mixes in well with the caramelized malts. Some peppery bitterness starts to build riding through to the finish.
M - Medium to full body but thins out as it sets, low carbonation, smoother feel.
A well blended brew that went down smooth. Not as good as I was expecting but still good. Glad I got to try it on tap though.
Serving type: on-tap

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Batch #2 from 2008. Found in grocery store. Pours a rusty, orange-brown. It holds a two and a half finger head. Retention is surprisingly nice. There are flecks of sediment adherent to glass. Smells of booze with caramel, toffee, and molasses and nuts. Taste is same but very buttery and a hint leather. A little salty on the finish. It was interesting trying a 5 year old version of this but would have nice to try on fresh. Good not great.
