Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Poured from a bomber into a pint glass. The appearance is a light dirty orange color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is a big caramel smell with spices. The taste is full of malt and caramel and the high ABV is apparent.

I love Belgian Strong Ales. Avery always comes through when they brew a higher gravity brew. I love it

Pours a darkish red/brown. Aromas of spice, coriander, yeast, and alcohol. Flavor has an alcohol taste to it, mixed with a nice smokey dark fruit. Also has strong hints of spice.

Bottle at Cafe Sara, july 3rd 2015. Unclear amber body with a white head. Aroma of spice yeast, caramel, apples. Taste of banana, toffee, red wine notes and choriander. Thick malty finish with a bready raisin and yeast aftertaste. Quite a special beer, and enjoyable too.

3/29/16. 22oz bottle from Five Points. $1.99 on the clearance rack. Bottle says Batch #8, bottled Jan. 2015. I’m actually surprised I’ve never rated this... I have walked by this bottle a hundred times. I guess a $2 price tag finally sold me. Clear amber red pour under a nice khaki head, mild lacing. Rich, dark fruits aroma, loads of em, with dark sugars and toast. Big caramel flavor, loads of dark fruits, raspberry candy, toast, biscuit. Surprisingly smooth and easy drinking for the ABV. Perhaps the age helps? Not bad!

It was just ok. I found it tasted rather pedestrian. Not bad, but not terribly interesting.

DWF; Drunk at ØST. Bottled JAN. 2015. Pours moderate, hazy cobber with a frothy, somewhat lasting and lacing tan head. Nose is moderate to heavy, malt, dark dried fruit, fermented plums, sour, light yeast and alcohol. Taste is heavy sweet and medium bitter with a lasting sweet plum, warming finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat to soft.

Poured from a bottle - batch # 8. Pours a medium cloudy caramel brown with a huge white foamy head. Semi sweet spice and biscuit aroma. Smooth semi thick texture with a light spicy taste. Notes of toffee. Hides the alcohol well. Flavors are not as bold as I had expected. Ok but not great.
