Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Bomber. Pours a clear dark amber with a fluffy off-white head. Spicy sweet aroma with some fruit to hold it up. The taste is much the same, but with some cookie dough sweetness. Warming spicy finish. Not bad, but not the best effort from either one of these brewers. Sort of a reverse-synergy.

22oz bottle. Pours a deep cloudy brown with a small beige head. Nice coats of lacing were left on the tulip glass. Nose of Belgian yeast, clove spice, and alcohol. Flavor was much the same with an extra hint of chocolate and dark malts.

Garnet color with a frothy head, nice lacing. Decent smell is of black pepper, spices. pale malts. Medium body. Good taste mirrors the aroma with sweet and dry malts, black pepper. Not too bad. 467

On tap @ Brew Kettle: Hazy copper color with an off white head. Aroma, fruity, yeasty and tart. Flavor, some tartness up front, caramel, and some dark fruity notes. It’s good, but I’ll take a bottle of the Russian River version over this any day.

Pours a rich golden amber with a creamy beige head. A malty faint belgian yeast character and wheaty, caramel in the nose as well. Taste is creamy, smooth and simple with brown malt and yeast flavors. On the lightly sweeter side. Softly carbonated and medium bodied. Drinkable.

Bottle at the Knoxville Spring(ish) tasting thanks to someone for bringing it. A brown amber pour with a slight tan head. A light bitter aroma with a hint of malt and alcohol. The thing that stood out the most to me on this was the abv. It wasn’t hot but it was there. The maltiness was there but took a back seat to the abv and I got just a hint of butter(? that is what my notes say)? Aggresive carbonation really took away from this beer and it was just a bit thin for a strong ale. Overall a very good beer. Carbonation was the big detractor for me the flavor and after taste were very good.

Bomber from Keg & Bottle 2. Pours a hazy brownish/orange color. Sweet fruity aroma with a hint of yeast. Some sweet banana as well. Sweet and creamy flavors. Some banana and spices. Some roasted qualities with an almost tobacco quality. Nice stuff.

Batch #3. 22 oz. bottle that I received as a birthday gift from my wife. Pours a hazy rust color with a moderate-large off-white head that lasted through the first third of the glass and left a very nice webbing of lace. Pleasant aroma of caramel, orange, spice and yeast. The flavor is orange, bananas, caramel, honey, spice and yeast. Moderate bitterness at the finish that really doesn’t materialize until just about at the swallow and continues to build for several seconds afterwards. Enjoyable.
