Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Found it quite difficult for me to follow the letigious comments of one "former Texan, as if there could ever be such - though that’s yet another matter for the courts). I put forth that, as has been said previously by other sinister forces that this is indeed a case exemplifying "better than the sum of its two parts". I do have a favored partner in this match, but also honor each in near parallel respect. Seeing Adam and Vinnie engaged in what looked like deep and/or fun conversation on the patio of Falling Rock last year makes this shine even more brightly for me. A good frieend of mine , having brewed and gotten along so well with other brewers brought this to light for me - that brewers can admire the work of another rather than resent , despise or whatever. Deliberate on your own terms ....

Bottle (shared with Tweety)... Poured a hazy golden/amber with a thick, white head. Wonderful nose. Lightly spiced with a malty, bread-like base and fruity esters. Toasty, malty, and a lot of good spiced, fruit notes with a mild, Belgian, yeast funk.

Draught. Clear dark pink with a thin head. Sweet estery aroma with bubblegum and fig. Sweet and sour flavor with cherry and vanilla. Clean finish. Nice beer but I don’t know if it’s better than the sum of its parts.

Copper, with a tan head. Aroma is fruit, spices, yeast, and malt. Flavor is fruit, yeast, malt, sugar, hops, and alcohol. A decent belgian, but I hoped for more.

Hazy amber color with a huge creamy beige head. Aroma of yeast and peppery spices. Flavors of yeast, spices, sweet malts and fruits. Pretty good and drinkable.

Batch #3. Wow, what a good brew! Pours a darker golden amber color with a white head. Aroma is banana, wheat, other fruits, and a touch of spice. Flavor is extremely complex, nice malty and yeasty flavor throughout.

Spicy aroma, with a strong herbal qualtiy - grassy and earthy. Clear (ie, filtered) dark mahogany with a small-bubbled white head. The flavor is extremely earthy - it tastes actually like sugar-sweetened, wet wood. Surprisingly, I kind of find it pleasant and enjoyable, although the alcoholic astringency takes a little bit away from my enjoyment. An interesting concept beer, that almost works pretty well.

22oz bottled jan 2007. I love the idea of this beer but I don’t know if it quite fleshes out. A murky red-brown color with long lasting large white head and some lacing. Has several belgium abbey ale qualities in the nose. Like when you are walking in a pine forest and you kick up the layer of fermenting mulch... you know that smell. A sweat yeasty character, of innocent youth. Flavor starts piney, acidic, bitter, toffee and finishes sweet-alc. Body is pretty thin, not bud light thin, it sits in your mouth and has weight but it doesn’t have that fullness that it really needs. Not my favorite from avery, but not bad either.
