Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Bomber. Pours dark orange/amber with a small head. Aroma is of dark fruit, spice, and alcohol. Flavor has same dark fruit component as aroma, along with same mixed chocolate and nutmeg. Finishes with warming alcohol. Overall, I found this beer to get too cloyingly sweet when it warmed. There is just not enough complexity to withstand the onslaught of sweet fruit.

Batch 1 Pours a slightly hazed brown with a large off white head. Aroma is caramel, dark fruits, spices, toffee, yeast and a little earthy. Flavor is candi sugars, caramel, dark fruits, spices, yeast, chocolate, biscuit. Finishes bittersweet with some faint faded hops mingling with the sugars and a slight chalkiness. Nicely crafted Belgian Strong Ale. I heard the newer batches aren’t as good, but I’ll have to wait 2 years to find out.

Draft at Oldsmar Tap House. I didn’t take too many notes on this one. It was sweet and more alcoholic than its ABV would suggest. Not too much in the way of hoppiness. Pretty good, but not all that memorable.

22 oz. brown, bomber bottle. No freshness date seen. poured out a deep copper color, with a sticky tan head. Aromas are of Belgian yeast, sourdough bread, cloves, some bananas. Flavors are more of a weizenbock than anything else. Cloves, yeast & esters galore. Medium mouthfeel, OK body. Nothing to write home about though.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Gilly’s, batch # 3 (Feb 2009) 8.97% ABV

Aroma: Banana, clove, some bread, yeast, sugar, a pretty complex and interesting nose
Appearance: Hazy dark orange/red color, decently thin white head
Flavor: A pretty complex sweetness that works pretty well, but not great...
Palate: Decent mouthfeel here, medium to full bodied
Overall Impression: I really like the idea of this beer and the story.
As of today (5/19/09) I’ve never had anything from Russian River, though I have heard good things, and I’d love to try something fully made by those guys. I have had a few others from Avery and I like what they are trying to do most of the time...

On tap@OBrien’s: Dark ice tea amber color with a wisp of off white head in the form of a halo. Smokey caramel sweet and over ripe fruit nose. Flavor starts rich caramel followed by cherry candy and ripe fruit syrup (apricot, peach). Medium body is smooth with moderate carbonation. A little overly sweet for my taste, but a good blend.

Thanks to RagallachMC for the bottle. Clear copper with a medium head. Good lacing. Smells of belgian yeast (bananas, cloves), nutty, caramel and dark fruits. Taste brings out the yeast and prunes, as well as alcohol. Medium-heavy body. A bit syrupy. Alcohol was well hidden.

Draught @ Brew Kettle: Pours a dark murky purple-brown with very small ivory head. Aroma is subtle but fruity with lighter fruits like apples and pears. The flavor is a sweet sugary malty goodness this one is very complex and to be honest hard to describe. Starts off sweet but not too much with sugar and caramel, toasted malts almost nutty then light fruits apples, raisens, and even a touch of maybe hallertau and cascades in the back with just a tiny bit of chocolate as well. Just an awesome mouthfeel very creamy, smooth and easy to drink the alcohol isn’t there at all and just a slight bitterness to it and the sweetness is just right. This is a malt lovers beer it just has so many flavors coming out. I want more, I slammed this fast.
