Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Bomber from Keg & Bottle 2. Pours a hazy brownish/orange color. Sweet fruity aroma with a hint of yeast. Some sweet banana as well. Sweet and creamy flavors. Some banana and spices. Some roasted qualities with an almost tobacco quality. Nice stuff.

Having not had the Russian River brew, it tastes like Salvation muddled down. Interesting. Subdued flavors of orange, little spice, possibly some apples. Light fruit. Velvet feel.

Pours a transparent dark copper mahogany with a nice, full-lacing, frothy off-white head. Aroma has a sweet earthy, bready dark caramel Belgian maltiness with some mild barnyard character. Body starts fairly full and caramely sweet with a touch of light fruity notes and earthy toasted malt with slight touch of funk and bready yeast toward the finish. Has some decent complexity and should age well.

Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 22 oz bomber. Murky, dark copper pour with a nice creamy off white head that leave sticky lacing on the glass. Licorice, cotton candyin the aroma. Sweet, malty flavor with some candied sugar notes, maple syrup, a hint of licorice. Not quite as complex as I thought it would be, but still packed with flavor. High alcohol content is apparent, but not distracting. Thickish, creamy mouthfeel. A nice way to waste away a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Bottled. Orange coloured. Unclear. Light brown head. Sweetness, alcohol, spice and fruits in the aroma. Has some citric and caramelly notes as well. Flavour is a bit flat. Some spice and sweetness is there. Herbal and citric notes. Medium bodied. Alcoholdense sweetness in the end and a light bitterness.

Bottled in February 2008. Batch #2 - 1.076 O.G. and 8.72% ABV. Brown bodied with a small tan head. Aroma of slightly tart fruit, Belgian yeast, dusty cocoa, dark fruits, and sweet malts. Taste is more sweet malts, touches of caramel, cherries, lightly tart fruit, Belgian yeast and more cocoa. Palate is very soft and creamy. Medium overall with a dense carbonation. Finishes with more dark fruits, mainly cherry and raisin, caramel, sweet malts, and yeast notes. More powdery cocoa here as well. Rather tasty!

Clear amber body with a clingy off-white head. Nice characters of peach, cherry, green banana, apple butter, and clove. Cherry and vanilla tones lead in the flavor. Has an interesting suggestion of rye spice. Modest sweetness and ample depth of character. Ester profile gets a little cloying, but the fusion is good overall.

Spicy aroma, with a strong herbal qualtiy - grassy and earthy. Clear (ie, filtered) dark mahogany with a small-bubbled white head. The flavor is extremely earthy - it tastes actually like sugar-sweetened, wet wood. Surprisingly, I kind of find it pleasant and enjoyable, although the alcoholic astringency takes a little bit away from my enjoyment. An interesting concept beer, that almost works pretty well.
