Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Dark and hazy coppery brown, thick creamy light tan head. A soft rich and complex nose steps forth with notes of plum, fig, and peppery hops. Underlying tone hints at wood, banana, and brett. Flavor has plenty of dark fruity notes, touches of banana again, and final kick of spicy hops in the end. Nicely balanced throughout. Full bodied, medium carbonation and smooth, light bittersweet finish. Very well done. Cheers to Collaborations....

Pours a deep ruddy orange brown. Steady bead, small sticky pale tan head. Sweet dark bread, banana, clove, cherry, damp earth, dusty, caramel, alcohol aromas. More caramel, chewy bready malts, dark fruit, damp earth again, medium bodied, great mouthfeel. Hints of spice, pepper, clove, citrus, with a peppery floral hop crusted finish. Lingering alcohol, spicy hops. Nice brew, thank you guys for the Collaboration. Isnt that what great beer is all about? bringing down to earth people together...

What an interesting idea this was and it worked out quite well. A murky brown appearance. Some dark fruit, cherries, and caramel in the aroma. The flavor consists of toffee, chocolate, caramel, and nutmeg. A rather sweet finish on this one. Overall this was a very nice beer.

Batch #2. This has a whole earthy farmhouse feel to it. It smells sweet, yeasty, rich dark fruits, and musty wood and grass. This is one of those beers that delivers flavor and palate just like you would expect from the sight and smell of it. It tastes earthy and robust, as well as sweet and fruity. Its mouth feel is crisp at first, then follows through with a nice thickness. Overall it is a great beer. I remember Avery’s salvation being a solid offering, but now I feel like I gotta get Russian Rivers side of the coin.

A real indictment on taste! As coconspirators: Russian River Brewing and Avery Brewing forge and utter a great taste. Finding it to be delightfully thick and sweet like candied cherries, I hold it to be a fine drink. It pleads for a opinion of greatness with its sweet finish. The Verdict: very appealable...Thanks Atty Aged Oak

Really glad to get to try this, thanks to maniac for this one. Medium towards dark amber with red, slight head, some floaties probably from my bad pour. Big spicy nose with a faint roasty note. Thick caramel malt flavor with Belgian spice yeast in the background and a drying bitterness on the finish. Really good.

This blend of two Belgian style beers with the same name came in a 22 oz. bomber with a silver neck foil. When poured, the reddish brown body looked closer to the Russian River Salvation part of the mix than the paler Avery Salvation. The overall appearance was similar to a Dubbel, with the exception of the clarity of the beer. Nice fizzy head, and thick lacing made this look quite good. The smell was that of sour cherry, banana, clove, and mandarin orange. The taste was dry, earthy, and spicy, making this quite a departure from the typical Avery Belgians, which I usually find to be floral, and a little sweet. This was quite a yeasty beer, with dusty tongue tingling phenols. The mouthfeel was little thinner than I would have liked. A little thicker, and it would have reached the lofty silkiness of Aventinus, which it kept reminding me of. Vinnie and Adam should think about having more collaborations in the future (despite the beer names being different). Pliny the Elder Maharaja would be hard to pass up.

22 oz bomber. Pours a dark orange amber color with a thick white head. Aroma is peppery with hints of caramel malts, figs, spiced candied sugar and faint banana. Taste is spicy and complex with peppery notes and hints of dark candied sugars as well as banana and caramel. Very interesting concoction and a good slow sipper.
