Bottle, Batch 3. A very very murky dark copper almost orangish/red color with a big creamy off-white head. This ain;t my style, but the aroma is very pleasant--juicy, slightly sweet, some hops... some brett? Flavor is... unique. I really just can;t even put my finger on it. The alcohol is remarkably well hidden. Some fruitiness, some nuttiness, some earthy and juicy hops, some... I don;t know. Medium body, medium to low carbonation. Overall: an interesting beer that is very unique. And, though I can’t figure it out, it works well, and I’m having fun trying.

I drank this on tap at the Flying Saucer Addison. As the ratings go, I would say it is better than Avery Salvation but not equal to RR Salvation. It had more malt in the taste than I remember from the bottle. The palate came across oily, which I don’t count as a negative. I really liked the coppery color and it was best served in a snifter, which the Saucer readily obliged. It is a good after-dinner beer.

Tap pours murky copper color with white head. Smell of smooth sweet grain. The taste is slightly smooth and grainy bite up front, that goes to a fruit sweet middle with a quirky Belgian yeast funk that stands out into the finish. it closes dry and crisp with a slightly fruity plum like flair. A good Belgian beer overall, musty and yeasty in character as it warms, old style brew.

Poured into a snifter at KnB Wine Cellars on May 13, 2012. Hardly any head when I got it. Color was toffee brown, mahogany. Light layer of icy white lacing, looked a bit like icicles. It dissipated rather quickly. Good-looking film, even and cobwebby. Stayed throughout the pour.
Smelled dark fruit, mainly apple and plum. Light note of cloves.
Complex taste of dark fruits - plum and apple, and cloves.
Medium body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Smooth finish.
Really liked this beer overall. It went down easy and smooth.

Sweet malt and citrus aromas. Toffee, dark fruit and spice flavors. Overall pretty darn good.

Absolutely beautiful pour...small tan head....sediment that seems to float in a suspended state....like a beer with stars inside. Wonderful sweet Belgian aroma. Creamy - quite heavy - mouth feel. Smooth from start to finish. Brown sugar, anise...very mild citrus. More Belgian than sour - terrific blend!

UPDATED: MAY 9, 2012 Pours a nice dark ruby with minimal head. Smell is creamy fruit with a small hop kick on the end. Taste is sweet citrus. It’s like drinking soda until the tail kick. Interesting beer.

On tap at Oak St. Draft House. Pours a dark reddish copper with a thin off white head. Yeasty aroma with dark fruits and some spice. Taste is figs and other dark fruit, and yeast with some vinous qualities and some tartness. Very good.

Originally reviewed 8/4/10. Batch #4, bottled in February 2010. ABV is 8.91% in this vintage.
22oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours an extremely murky dark amber/gold. There isn’t a bit of light creeping through this beer at all. A small off-white head rests atop. This disappears to just a ring around the edge. Leaves plenty of sticky lace in its wake though. Pretty beer. The nose is a bit underwhelming though. I notice some darker fruits like plum and apricot, and there’s a slight spicy note there as well, but, I it’s just not very strong. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing though.
The mouth is crisp, due to a moderately high amount of carbonation. Though this is a bit higher, the finish is actually quite smooth and pleasant. This beer is definitely on the sweeter side. The dark fruits that I found in the nose are present in the flavor as well, but with the addition of some black licorice and light pineapple. This isn’t as yeasty as expected. The mixture of two Belgian-styles made me think it’d be very apparent. The finish is candy-like and slightly syrupy.
This was a good beer. Definitely not one I’d revisit often as it’s a bit much; but great for celebrations and special times. Recommend.

(22 oz. (batch 4, bottled 2/10) from Jason’s) Pours dark amber-brown, a bit cloudy. Tall beige head. Malty aroma of chocolate, caramel and sweet fruit. Mouthfeel thick and full. Malty flavor of chocolate, caramel, fruit, touch of licorice. Smokey and malty, like a doppelbock or quad.
