Great beer for the hopheads! Smooth yet bitter! I am an extreme hophead but this is one of the best IPA’s I have ever tried.

Draft - pours like real honey. Nose is citrus and pine. Flavor adds grapefruit. Bitter as can be with faint sweetness if you seek it out. A sipper of a beer.

Thx. to tderoeck (Tim) for sharing this one // 66 cl. bottle sampled @ Tim’s De Molen & assorted beers tasting // nice bottle design // glad to finally try an Avery beer // bright orange appearance, little white head // smell is mellow exotic fruits, passion fruit, sweet yeast & base is dominating the hops, oranges, sweet malts apparent // taste is bitter floral, oranges, nectar, sweet light marmalade, apparent yeast & apparent malts, sweet, sweetness indicating further age // medium bodied // yeah age has severely mellowed this beer, which is not what this obviously should be since beers like this are designed to just feature a bunch of hops // not bad considering that this is an old IPA, obviously neither stellar nor brilliant // blah, blah standard obvious argument for aging, blah, blah, yada, yada
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Martinus (1777) - Nijmegen, NETHERLANDS - JAN 1, 2013
Slightly hazy orange golden colour, white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, light American hops, cheese, malts. Rather sweet flavour, quite bitter, bit dusty notes. Finish bitter, notes of raisins.
Is it old? It does have a bit of an old feel to it. I really don’t like the lack of Best Before dates on bottles.
(From 66cL bottle at the DMT @ Tim’s living, Gent. Shared by tderoeck. Thanks, Tim!)

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2013 30/XII/12 - 1Pt. 6Fl. Oz. bottle from Charles Street Liquor (Boston, MA) @ home: De Molen & assorted beers tasting - BB: n/a (2012-1419) Thanks to Thomas and Annelies for bringing me the bottle!
Note: even though the bottle was consumed pretty fast after buying (6 to 8 weeks), it clearly shows signs of ageing. As there is no date mentioned on the bottle, this is just as much the brewery’s fault as it is the shop’s.
Clear deep orange beer, irregular off-white head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: honey, bit sweet, ripe fruits, bit cheesy, malts, sweet grains. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: bit fruity, citrus, some orange, piny bitter hops, dry, some aspirin. Aftertaste: honey, piny, pretty bitter, medicinal, dry.

75cl bottle, shared with 77ships, Martinus and Tderoeck. Thanks Tim.

Bomber pour into tulip...orange color..slight film rests on top...no idea of when this was bottled or how fresh this is..usually not a good sign for an ipa..aroma of citrus..resin..prominent cat pee as well..leaves good lacing..mouthfeel is good with a citrusy lemon grapefruit bitter assault at start balanced by caramel sweetness at end...nice hop bomb indeed..would like to know if this was relativley fresh..probably not with sept/jan bottling..good imperial ipa would like to beable to compare this with maharaja...

Dark copper. Thin white head. Lots of complex hop flavor that seems to change as it lingers on palate. Piney. Amazingly delicious.

[keg at Breukelen Bier Merchants] Slightly hazy bronze-coloured pour, with a large, fluffy white head. Aroma pretty heavy on the pine-caramel axis, with resin coming over first before the sweeter elements come over on the nose. Flavours follow the same pattern, with piney hop dominating before the sweet, sticky malts come over. Alcohol on the finish. Great stuff [24112012]

Bomber---> stemmed glass. Pours a slightly cloudy orange with a small white head and pretty good lace. NICE floral grapefruit aroma with a small bit of caramel thrown in. Taste is intense floral hops and a bit of candy. Quite bitter on the back end without being off-putting. Nice medium palate with adequate carbonation. Very solid IPA.
