Lupulin Rapture Incarnate! As fervent devotees of hops, we found ourselves on a quest to create a transcendental IPA capable of quenching our voracious lupulin desires. Our mantra became “unity of bitterness, hop flavor and aroma.” Enlightened, duganA IPA was born: A brutally bitter, dank, piney and resinous ale designed for those seeking a divine hop experience.

Transfer from BA review on 4-3-12 - Served in a 10 oz chalice glass Appearance – Served a hazy golden-orange color with a moderate white head. The head faded to give a nice lacing. Smell – The smell is a big mix of wonderful aromas. There is a nice sweeter malty flavor that is the base. With the maltiness there are great hop aromas of citrus, pine, and some more floral aromas. Overall very nice. Taste – A slight sweet malt bready flavor meets the tongue. This is mixed with a wonderful more citrusy pine taste. The sweet fades over the taste experience becoming more bitter as the taste goes on. As it bitters, more hop flavors begin showing up. Grapefruit, pine, earthy and a bitter resinous flavor really come into play. They leave a very nice aftertaste on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body is above average; nice and creamy. The carbonation level is on the average level. The creamy body really suits the beer well. It allows all those wonderful tastes to sit and relax on the tongue, but yet has enough carbonation to excite the tongue to just the right amount. Overall – Avery does it again with this IPA. Great qualities all around with a very nice balance. All and all, I would definitely recommend.

Backlog. Dominated by hoppy-aromas, citrus, pine, grape-fruit and some caramel.

Not a good smelling beer. Dank, musty, almost urine-like aroma. There is some malt and hop bitterness coming through, but it is late and fleeting. Dark for an IPA and has a small white ring of foam that does not go away. Tastes better than it smells and looks. It has a bit of a dank and musty taste up front, but that is immediately taken over by grapefruit hop bitterness. The aftertaste is bitter but not long lasting. Has a fizzy palate despite not looking overly carbonated. I found the palate to be the best part of this beer. This is a hard one to rate - it smells bad, looks average, tastes okay. My closest comparison would be Lagunitas’ Hop Stoopid, but it has a murky, stale quality that makes it not as good. If you’re going to go with an Avery DIPA, try Maharaja - it’s much better.

Pours a nice amber color. Floral notes, citrus, pine, and grass on the nose of this DIPA; all follow onto the palate. A lot of resin in this one, piney. Has a nice bite to it on the finish.

I guess I’m going mostly against the grain on this one in saying that this double IPA isn’t all that great. The duganA pours a cloudy light orange color with a decent-sized white head. The head leaves some nice, sticky lacing around the inside of the glass. The nose is where I start to get tipped-off that I may not like this one. I smell a musty couch, a dark, wet basement and a sour vegetable aroma. The flavors, unfortunately, are consistent, with an overpowering, sour and spoiled taste of bitter hops, expired veggies and produce that’s been left in a gutter. I drank about half of the bomber but had to pitch the rest. This one just didn’t agree with me.

Bomber bottle poured a cloudy orange hue w/ a large creamy white head slowly diminishing to a thin cap w/ excellent lacing. Big sweet citrus aromas. Initial flavor is light sweet w/ a bold bitter finish of moderate duration. Tastes are straw, orange, grapefruit, and pine. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel, and nice carbonation level.

Deuce, pours a light murky brownish orange with off white head. The aroma is primarily malty with some citrus. Taste is caramel malt, pine, citrus, and grapefruit with big time bitterness. Not bad but a bit more malty than I generally prefer in a DIPA.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a cloudy/hazy golden orange colored body with a one and a half fingered white foamy head that rises just a bit and then falls leaving some nice slightly foamy sticky lacing gracing the sides of the glass. The smell had a large amount of grapefruit up front, some pineapple coming through as well in a really nice juicy sort of way, a slight maltiness comes through as it warms, what a nice invitation! The taste was slightly spicey but a sort of strong sweetness from the previously mentioned flavors trying its hardest to come out, a peppery/spicey aftertaste, quick dry spicey finish. On the palate, it sat about a light to medium, somewhat sessionable, carbonation is slightly felt for a DIPA, however, it seems just a tad under carbonated to me as I was expecting something just a bit sharper. Overall, I would say this is a good DIPA that I’m pretty sure I would have again.
