Commercial Description:
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

I really appreciated this beer.....poured a translucent brown with some deep ruby tones. Nice tan head with nice retention. Taste, well, classic. It tasted like a very nice classic brown ale with only very slight bitterness with great hop flavor and aroma as well as very nice malty sweet flavor with great fruity notes. Carbonation was medium, which is what I would expect. This beer was a very nice simple change from other ales I have tried lately. Very true to style. Would buy again.

Pours a dark copper-brown color with a frothy tan head. Head is short lived. The aroma is not strong, but a light, sweet malt. The taste follows suit with a very slightly sweet malt flavor. There’s a light bit of roasted malt with some toffee in the background as well. A slight hop bitterness comes through in the aftertaste. This is an easy drinking beer with no over powering flavors.

Bottle; poured a medium brown with only a minimal amount of head. Aroma of chocolate, nuts and toffee. Really nice and smooth on the palate. Flavor was of chocolate, vanilla, and caramel. Above average for the style for sure, but have been impressed with a few other versions of the style recently. This one doesn’t quite live up to them. Still drinkable and tasty.

I have to admit I picked this up because there’s a dog on the label. But I’m glad I did. The aroma of this beer is a little strange and nothing like the flavour it has across the tongue, which is light and nutty.

Yo, doggie label! Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a semi-clear dark amber brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and light white ring. Aroma of dark caramel malt, some brown sugar and a touch of vanilla and grassy hops. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of roasted caramel malt, a touch of molasses, vanilla and a hint of chocolate covered raisins. Finish is slightly metallic with a light and dry chocolate and grassy hop aftertaste.

Very boring. Aroma is metallic vanilla and sweet and a slight hoppiness. Taste is thin, metallic vanilla extract and some aspect of nuttiness, but it is a reach to say that there is any depth to this beer. Quaffable, but boring and unremarkable.

stumbled on it because of the dog label-noble like the beer. Smooth is the word, not too heavy at all, great at the dinner table.

Pours a very dark copper/brown color, with a very light brown, thick head. Pleasant malty aroma and taste, with hints of tofee, raisins, and molasses. Brown ales aren’t my favorite style, but this is a very nice, drinkable beer.
