Commercial Description:
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

Aroma of hazelnut and tobacco. Clean dark brown and a great 2 finger head. Muted flavor, nothing stands out. Faint almond flavor. Disappointing.

Bottle. Pours with a brown color and a smallish brownish head. Great malty aromas, hints of nuts and chocolate. Flavors are very well balanced, some caramel, nuts and some roastiness. Medium bodied, very satisfying brown ale.

All of the right things in all of the right amounts. Pours a nice dark brown. Chocolate, malt, nuts in just the right amount. Nothing overpowering. A very pleasant beer. I could easily drink way too much far to quickly.

Quite a malty nose, brown sugar, hint of cocoa, deep chestnut, with a small tan head. Flavour also has chocolate, roasted malts and some nuttiness. Really well balanced, bitter and dry. Good.

Pours a clear garnet-brown with a frothy tan head that has a bit of staying power and laces nicely for a brown. Sweet roasted malts, light nuttiness and a touch of vanilla are on the nose. Medium-bodied and creamy/slick it finishes dry and slightly bitter. Nutty, roasted malts with a hint of cocoa and a distinctly bitter hop finish. A decent brown that’s not just another malt bomb, but I didn’t find it anything to get too excited about.

12 oz bottle. Aroma of roasted malt with a noticeable portion of chocolate. Dark mahogany color with a beige head that flattened.Thin to medium bodied with nearly creamy carbonation. There is a strong roasted malt flavor. No sour notes, slight chocolate, and arguably a bit of coffee. There is enough bitter to be noticed in the finish. A very good ale. Much better than most American browns.

8/25/07 From the bottle. Aroma is roasty, very bready, slight chocolate, slightly sweet/sour tone, some citrus, and almost no hop character. Appearance is deep brown with a moderate light tan head. Flavor is sweet roast malt forward with caramel and a light hop character of citrus and resin. Mouthfeel is medium/full bodied and resiny. Overall, easy drinking, but not quite to style, should use more hop character. Still, pretty delicious with good complexity.
