Commercial Description:
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

Pours a clear, dark brown with lots of head and medium carbonation. Some initial lacing that does not last. Faint scent of roasted malt, but forgive me for my nose is a wee bit stuffy! Taste is not particularly full as it goes down, and only a faint malty aftertaste remains. I’m finding nothing particularly interesting about this one.

Pours a deep brown with amber highlgihts when held to the light. Head was a medium foamy/rocky light tan head that left spotty lacing. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, roasted malts, light coffee and some citrus hops. Flavors of light coffee, some chocolate, some caramel, more hops than I was expecting. A little thin.

Pours a darker brown color with a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate, toffee, coffee, and some nuts. Thick on the palate with strong sweet malts, roasted malts, chocolate, a hint of coffee, and plenty of nuttiness. Picked up on a slight hoppiness on the finish. A decent brew from Avery.

Nut brown with an off white creamy head. Roasted malts, toffee, caramel & chocolate. Sweetness. Fine filling body. Easy hoppy end. All around very pleasant & well made brown ale!

[12oz Bottle - Top Foods] A nice deep brown color. This was a very nice easy to drink brown ale. A hint of coffee and nuts and the sweet flavors where throughout . Good job on this beer.

Mild malt roast with lite nut aroma. Dark brown with nice creamy head. Notes of coffee, nutss, and sweet malts in the flavour. Farily smooth with some sour notes.

Dark mahogany with foamy, tan head / Sweet malt, toffee and roast nose / Fully body with chewy, creamy malts and hops and good finish / Smooth flavors of toffee, coffee, chocolate, cream, and nuts / An outstanding brown ale with a stellar body.

Surprising. Brown ales so often have a metallic zing to the malt, but this beer from Avery really dodged that tin bullet. Just enough hops to keep your tongue awake and chewy enough to keep your attention. Well rounded and just tasty.
