Toasty & malty flavor with nice choclate malt in the aroma. Seemed to go down very smoothly one after another. trafford (171), Germantown, Tennessee, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 22, 2006 Deep copper in color with ruby highlights and a large light tan head. Aroma is malty. Flavor has the usual notes of roasted malt, nuts, chocolate, caramel, some hops and coffee. Roasty, lightly bitter aftertaste. Medium-full, round and creamy on the palate - good body for a brown ale. iowaherkeye (1856), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 19, 2006 12oz, no date. Pours a clear ruby brown with a one finger tan head. Aroma of toasted malts and nuts, and a little resiny piney hops. Hops make a bigger appearance in the taste, though not by much. Seem to be just pine, not really any bitterness until the finish, and quite mild. A little chalkiness as well. Nuts, toasty and caramel malts, and a subtle sweetness (more brown sugar than white sugar) are also there. Moderate carbonation, light-medium bodied. Better than the 14’er I just had. yngwie (4970), Kristiansand, Norway

Mocha, roasted malt and some chocolate in the aroma and flavor. More emphasis on the roastiness in the aroma. Medium body and some bitterness in the finish. A very nice brown ale. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 11, 2006 12oz bottle. Filtered and deep deep dark reddish hue. Spiral of off-white head. Nutty, caramel and toffee in the nose. Rich and very smooth. All malts. Caramel and bitter chocolate. This is good! Slight coffee note. Very solid smooth brown! The more beers that I have from Avery, the more I like how they represent a style. Spot On! Theis (3740), Denmark

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 6, 2006 Not the best brown ale I’ve tried, not the worst either, somewhere around average I think. Aroma and flavor are both restrained, featuring typical brown ale notes of chocolate, but not a whole lot of molasses/caramel, as I found this one to be surprisingly dry. Instead there was a light ashy character in the finish. Deep purplish color with a big 3 finger pitted head.
