| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 2, 2006 From a 12 oz. long neck brown bottle with a blurb along the right side of label, no freshness date.
Poured a dark chocolate with a fluffy, rocky off-white head that slowly settled into a thin sudsy lacing, fair amount of laced sticking.
Aromas of toasted and roasted malts, grainy with a swirl of caramel and chocolate, a big nuttiness, lightly floral with a subtle vanilla.
Smooth, even carbonation and malty crisp and chewy, creamy medium bodied mouthfeel.
A nice malty taste, roasted caramel and toasted grain and nuts, sugary sweet from the crystal malts, touches of vanilla, a soft hop bitterness, a light fruitiness and a dry grainy and malty finish, good drinkability.
Another tasty brew from Avery, a good brown ale, worth trying.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2006 The beer is very dark brown with a tan head. Its aroma isn’t very strong (or perhaps it was the glass that it was served in) - toasted bread, nuts, sweet malts. The flavor is very drinkable - not particularly strong, a little sweetness, mild hop bitterness, some chocolate. The beer is light to medium in thickness of mouthfeel/body. It finishes a little sweet with hints of roasted malts. aerosol999 (113), Quebec, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 1, 2006 Nose: toasty, nutty, fruity, american hop, licorice
Appearance: Thick tan head, deep nut brown colour with red/orange tint
Mouthfeel: Medium body, creamy, chewy malt character
Flavour: Sweet, nutty, roasty, some american hop flavour but definitely leans towards a mostly caramel flavour balanced with roast flavours. Has a mineral character to it but not out of place - it counters the malt sweetness and leaves it with a drier finish than I would have expected. jzzbassman (846), New Albany, Mississippi, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 30, 2006 Wish I could give points for the artwork..looks just like my lab Phoebe. Pours a medium brown with a tiny head with small bubbles. Slight nutty aroma, with the flavor being a bit of caramel malt, mexican chocolate, and roasted nuts. Very drinkable, not tremendously exciting, but one I wish I could easily get on tap. ante (2936), Stockholm, Sweden

Burnt sugar, nut-shells, almond and roasted malts in aroma. Nutty flavour with notes of toffee and burnt sugar. Mild nutty aftertaste with notes of dark chocolate. bubbleflubber (893), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 18, 2006 Pours a rich mahogany into the glass, with a hugely deep head, well retained and sudsy lace. Nice chocolate malt to the nose... really nice. Smells spot on to a chocolate malt Yoo-Hoo. Tastes very similar... a nice chocolate upfront, with an espresso mid-palate into the coffee bean finish. There are some hints of nuts to the overall impression. It is well-crafted, well-integrated, and as the mouthfeel is very smooth, the brew goes down well. This is quite drinkable, and a VERY good brown ale! Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 17, 2006 A dark brown appearance with a diminishing tan head. A chocolate, caramel, and milky aroma. The flavor is rather sweet with a big nutty presence. A rich milk chocolate and caramel taste. The aftertaste leaves a slight bitterness on the tounge. This is a damn fine brown. xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA

12 oz bottle
Unknown bottling, absorbed 08/06
Medium pour in a pint glass.
Poured mahogony with a mostly diminishing frothy 1/4 inch light mocha head.
Smelt of mixed nuts and some chocolate malts.
Taste begins with a tinge of chocolate malts and sweetness, then gets nutty in the body to finish with a mostly lingering crisper hop bite and astringent dry nutty malt taste. Mouthfeel was dry and carbonated.
Overall, an average dry nutty brown ale.
