Commercial Description:
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

At World Beer Festival in Raleigh NC, this poured a deep brown with a nutty, roasted malt nose. Taste of nut, chocolate and malt. Solid mouthfeel, solid Brown Ale. Another great Avery brew.

Pours a clear dark chocolatey brown with a fair amount of head and good retention. Smells of hops, malts, and funk. Tastes of pure bliss, malts, moasis, funky-freshness. Felt a bit flat on the tongue, but otherwsie solid. I want to drink more and more of this. I believe this has just become my preferred Brown Ale (unless I find something even more amazing).

pours crystal dark brown with a 2 finger head that fades very fast but leaves notches all down the glass. not much nose on this one but some faint grassy hops. upfront with the bitter hops then moves to sweet roasted malts. mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. if you enjoy a nice sessionable brown this is a great full flavored beer. i could put down several anytime of year

Bottle. Pours clear dark reddish brown with a 2 finger tan head that leaves decent lacing. The nose is sweet malt and roasted nuts. The taste is cocoa, roasted nuts and toasted malt. Medium semi-creamy finish. Good Brown!

Legit. Very rarely does a brown ale come along that really impresses me but this certainly did the job. Nice malty flavor with a sweet, vanilla flavor. Tasted like a cake almost.

12 oz. bottle from Plaza Liquors - Pours a clear brown color with a 3/4 finger thick light tan head. Light spotty lacing. Aroma is a lightly toasted caramel malt. Flavor is a sweet toasted malt and light chocolate. Medium body. No lingering aftertaste. A very nice Brown ale.

Very drinkable. Dark brown pour, diminishing white head. Nutty malty aroma with a sweet nutty taste. Nice finishing hop bite.

Easy drinking brown. Not too sharp or nutty. Roasted caramel, cofee and some sweetness with no odd bitterness.
