3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep dark brown appearance with mininal head but great lacing.
This brew really surprised me. It was handed to me in a glass, and I was firmly convinced it was a rather low body stout. I was wrong, it was actually a brown ale. In true Avery fashion, they took a normal brown ale and went big. This was all around solid.

Overall decent. A lack of stand out flavors keeps it from being really good though.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours cola-black with a persistent tan head. Not much on the nose, the palate has chocolate and some roasted malt but not depth of flavor. The high CO2 level overwhelms the flavors. Overall, a good session brown but not a terrific single drinker.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Malty, nutty aroma. Flavor starts slightly sweet and nutty, with coffee and chocolate. Finish was bitter, smoky, and frankly pretty harsh for what otherwise would have been a very enjoyable brown ale. Good, but not great.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 26, 2014 Nose of caramel and yeast. This has all the flavor characteristics of a classic porter only lighter; chocolate, coffee, nuts, etc. on a nice malt base. It’s very refreshing with good carbonation and balance. Not earth shattering but very enjoyable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark brown with a tan quickly dissapating head. Light body but complex flavor for a brown ale. Little brown sugar flavor but not overwelming. Slight chocolate flavor also. Nice ale over all.

Tap. Pours a dark brown transparent with some visibility at the bottom. Spotty tan head. Taste of malts, hints of hops, done chocolate. Aroma of chocolate and malts.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
not quite a miss, but their weakest offering i’ve had to date. understated nose of chocolate malt and a touch of bittering hops. flavor was the strongpoint at first but became a little less pleasant as the beer warmed. dry finish. Overall, an average or slightly better than average brown ale. So far I like the big ones better (Czar, Hog Heaven, Beast)...but the IPA, Red, Stout & Porter are all better than this."

Glass poured into a pint glass. No head. Smells chocolate and nutty. Taste is chocolatey but not much nutty.
