COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

Hmm, more nutty in flavor than your typical brown. Decent brown pour w/ thin head & good lacing. The aroma has a very nice dark malt & nut scent. The taste is somewhat dry for a brown & slightly uninteresting. There isnít much chocolate or sweetness to properly balance it. Itís still rather drinkable but not at the top of itís class!

Can pour into shaker pint glass from Andover Liquors. Aroma is bready malt with mild roast and vanilla, cocoa. Appearance is clear, dark mahogany with tons of sparkle, finger-width foamy light brown head with fair retention and nice lacing. Taste is as aroma with addition of mild nuts, brown sugar and dark fruit. Palate is light bodied with thin texture, average carbonation and finish as is taste. Overall, a nice brown ale.

Brown beer from can at bad wolf. Tan head. Malty, syrup and brown sugar flavors. Full flavor for a low abv. Gotta like that. Doesn't taste that great overall tho.

The bond between brewer and dog has led to some brilliant liquid tributes to fallen canine friends. Itís funny because there are some rather mediocre beers dedicated to deceased people. (Yes, thereís good ones, too, and I wonít name the less stellar ones out of fear for my own life.) Is this proof that dogs are better than humans? Probably, but enough with the soul-searching. Ellieís pours mahogany-brown with tan suds. Aroma of roasted nuts, toasted sugar, and cocoa. Flavor has some hops to balance things, but the taste leans toward sweet with creamy chocolate. Itís settled. Dogs are better than people.

On tap at World of Beer (Charlottesville, VA). Aromas of dark chocolate, subtle purple grape, doughy. Dark brown, mostly clear, with a mostly lasting off-white head. Mostly dry, some fruit, earthy. Medium bodied.

A very dark brown ale with excellent mouthfeel and appearance. but disappointing taste and aroma. Looks and feels like a stout, and tastes more than a little like one too. A - nearly opaque dark brown with low level of head. The head is short-lived but leaves side lacing for a while. T - too earthy; bitter but not hoppy finish. Relatively strong roasted/burnt components. M - medium/medium-heavy; creamy; noticeable carbonation. (from Dec. 2010 notes)

Can. Pours a clean brown with small, diminishing than head and a bit of foamy lacing. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, nut, vanilla, light fruit. Medium body. Tastes follows aroma. Sweet and malty, easy drinking.
